it is a 128 mb memory stick type thing and i put it in the first time and it asked if 9i wanted to install a driver but it couldn't find it where i told it to look and now it won't even read it

Windows98?

Sorry, couldn't resist that.

If you go the manufacturers site, they usually will have available downloads all the way back to Windows95.

As far as not reading it, it probably still sees it, in your Device Manager, you probably have a piece of hardware that is disabled, most likely that is it.

WIndows 98 can not read memory sticks unless the drivers form them are installed first. 98 was created long before memory sticks were even dreamed of.

You will need to install the drivers from a floppy or CD first. you will be able to find them at the memorex web site. If after that it still will not see the stick, you will have to go ito the Device Manager and remove any unknown items, and possible all the USB devices. Reboot and it should redetect everything including the stick.

Hmm, immature hardware advise from newbies.....on above.

You have to download this WINDOWS 98 SE UNOFFICIAL SERVICE PACK. Download it. Burn it to a disk and install it on the machine, thats it, you have USB working on win 98 se.
