I looked in Travelocity from Columbus to Las Vegas on the dates that you specify for air and hotel and the two that I'd recommend are the Excalibur and Luxor. Both are located on the Strip and are beside each other. They are also near Tropicana, New York New York, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo. Both hotels are good - the Excalibur has some nicely updated rooms available and even their older rooms are good. Excalibur's main drawback is that the outside and some of the inside decor is a little tacky but it's a great deal in a great location and their customer service is great. If you like to go to the spa - their's is really nice. Luxor is a step up from the Excalibur especially in the tower rooms and again their customer service is great. Both hotels have nice pools - Excalibur may still have some construction going on near the pool.
Avoid the buffet at the Excalibur and be sure to go to the buffet at Mandalay Bay - I think that it's the best on the strip.

Well how cheap is cheap? There are about 1,000 hotels in Vegas. They go from $20 all the way to $1000s. If you're looking at Circus Circus, I suspect you are looking for about $50-$100. let me be honest. Circus Circus is a dump and a half. It is run down, not managed very well and not clean. Most of the rooms are in the "manor" which is a motel complex behind the tower. It is worse than bad. Of the hotels of comparable price, try the Sahara or Tropicana. they are all older, but less expensive than a lot of the newer ones.

Since there is construction going on around the Monte Carlo I have seen bargains there. The construction is a small pain if you rent a car, since you are forced to valet, but otherwise there is no noise and the hotel is definitely nicer than Excalibur or the Tropicana, and maybe even the Luxor. Tropicana does have the nicest pool of any bargain Strip hotels, and if you are going to spend a lot of time near the pool it may be a good pick, but the rest of the hotel is below the quality of Luxor or Monte Carlo, and their pools aren't bad.

Some options for your trip - August 10th - 15th
This was the site I used for rates
http://www.travelworm.com
to access every hotel/casino web site in LV to compare rates
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/referenceguide-hotels.cfm
Circus Circus($75.20) isn't a good idea unless your idea of a vacation is a run down day care center for rowdy children.
The Plaza, if you want to stay in an inexpensive "nice" hotel in downtown the Plaza isn't it. Main Street Station, California,Four Queens, even the El Cortez(IMO) are much nicer than the Plaza, and if you want a 4 star hotel in downtown with a great pool, the Golden Nugget($103) is your best bet.
The Tropicana($96.80) does have a nice pool, other than that I don't care for this hotel at all.
I would stay at Excalibur($97) before I would stay at the Tropicana
The only "great" pool for a reasonable price is the Flamingo($121.60) - The Flamingo is a nice hotel, right in the center of the strip.
http://www.harrahs.com >flamingo
The best deal IMHO is the Stratosphere($84.40) - They do have a nice(not great) pool area, and they have an adult pool for hotel guests(Beach Club 25, $10 for men, free for women)
http://www.stratospherehotel.com
One of my favorites is the Orleans($109.60) - It's located a little over a mile west of the strip on Tropicana - they do have a free shuttle to the strip - The pool is okay, nothing special, but the rooms are very nice. The Orleans is a fun place with tons to do, their buffet is one of the best for the $$. The Prime Rib Loft is a very good steakhouse. the Courtyard Cafe has some of the best meal deals going. If you're looking for a very nice casino with great value restaurants and nice rooms with an awesome view of the strip(you have to ask, for a room on an upper floor 16-19 is great, that faces East)
http://www.orleanscasino.com
If it were me, and the $600 fits in your budget, I would go with the Flamingo, and or if you want to keep cost down, the Stratosphere.
If you have a Q , feel free to e-mail me through YA

I have stayed at Circus Circus and I would not recommend it. It is kind of ghetto and at the very end of the strip. Alot of walking if you want to see the strip. Hooters is a nice place to stay and its about half a block off the strip down by MGM. Next time we are going to stay at Treasure Island or the Luxor. Stay away from Tropicana and Excalibur. Old and musty. Have fun.

The best value buffets are not on the strip.
The strip is for tourists that don't have transportation to get off the strip, and are a captive audience for the overpriced meals. Way overpriced IMO.
Locals eat off the strip.
Try the Orleans, Silverton and Main Street Station (Downtown) for great value buffets, AND you can get 2 for 1 coupons for the buffets by oredering a book called
AMERICAN CASINO GUIDE 2007 Edition. (Author Steve Bourie) Available on Amazon, eBay etc. Coupons good until Dec '07, also good for some shows and a few casino bets.
You need to go downtown and get the FREMONT STREET EXPERIENCEfun book coupons for a Main St 2 for 1
It's well worth the cost of the book if you are going to LV for 3 or 4 days or more. LOADS of great coupons in this book.
Silverton Lunch Buffet is $9.95 and 2 for 1 in the book, amazing meal for 2 for $10 !!
Others are $15 max, but 2 for1's are in the book.
You need a car to get off the strip for Silverton or Orleans, but you can take a bus downtown for Main Street Stn.
The book is WELL worth the cost if you are there for a few days with a car. Have Fun !

Cheap or best deal.... The Luxor sometimes offers their jacuzzi mini suite for $125, I love that deal. Keeps me OUT of the casino a little longer.

Well, your best bet is to head to http://www.resideo.com/us/nevada/lasvegas/ and click the "Check Availability" button. Choose your dates, submit the form, then sort the results by price -- that'll put the cheapest places first.
Read over what's available for booking, then go to tripadvisor.com and read up on the ones you chose, to see what others have to say.
Then, when you've made your choice, go back and book the room!
Good luck, and have fun!
