I guess it is because I like to read things written properly. I am a perfectionist or it may be that English is my favorite subject.

I agree with you. To add to your concerns, many posters use homonyms incorrectly as "Your (You're) a great person" or "Jim bought there(their) tickets to the play" Today I read a post on Yahoo Answers in which the person used the word "way" when he/she obviously meant "weigh" There's an abundance of misuse of homonyms on Yahoo Answers as well as on other web sites that solicit feedback.

I also continually notice the article "an" being substituted for the conjunction "and" Example: "Jane an Doris went to college together". I obviously could come up with more examples, but you get the idea.

It frankly concerns me that more and more folks can't even manage to spell and write at the proficiency level expected of a 4th or 5th grader. How do they deal with much higher level cerebral challenges?

i'm a translator and proofreader yet i do no longer appropriate human beings on the internet except asked to because of the fact individuals that are no longer linguistically minded do exactly no longer care, that's a waste of time, and it merely receives on their nerves. That pronounced, adverse grammar, spelling, and punctuation is disturbingly familiar in the process the internet, human beings see it, and, understanding not extra appropriate, replica it; and so the vicious circle is going on until eventually adverse English is the norm (if that's not already). i could ought to stop my activity to appropriate each and every of the errors I see in an afternoon's surfing: this internet site is packed with errors (no longer alongside with the intentional ones), as many from the preachers of positive grammar as from the defenders of illiteracy; the inability or overuse of the apostrophe being the worst (2 Weeks' observe or 2 Weeks observe? definite, even Warner Bros go incorrect, so what wish for something individuals?). And what do we do whilst even respected web pages like the BBC are rife with errors? by potential of how, the spell examine is beneficial yet no longer suited. I very almost positioned "rather my activity" because of the fact my arms are consistently racing forward typing trouble-free words beforehand my innovations reaches them to inform them what they ought to truly be typing. The spell examine does not have picked that up. It probable does not %. up all adverse punctuation the two, e.g. the adaptation between that's and its. This internet site is rather no longer that undesirable whilst in comparison with many boards i've got seen, so possibly some tolerance ought to be exercised.

Some people just don't care about spelling or proper grammar. For example, my older sister is (in the works) a teacher, however she does not use proper grammar or spelling when chatting online. She said it's simply faster to type that way and it doesn't bother her like it irks me.

The lesson I learned from that is to try not to judge a person by their illiteration, 'cause it could still be someone smarter than I. (Although, it is legal to discriminate through illiteracy.)

We all have the areas that we are better in or not so good in. I know many people including myself that are very smart and educated in different areas. but my brain works so quickly that it gets impatient and I scramble my letters. Almost a form of dyslexia formed by my brilliance. You should be grateful for your slower wit that it helps you type proper sentences and learn grammar. I know it is hard to adjust to the fact that you will never be a brain surgeon or a rocket scientist, but I bet you will make a great secretary. Oh, the other half of the mis-spellers are just a product of the "no child left behind" act. Take care and good luck.

Gee Berta, some people can spell with little error and some just don't have that ability. The same with math, science, history, and so on. We as humans retain some things and not others. It is not necessary explainable. We don't know everything nor will we ever. Just accentuate what you can retain and help other's to do the same.

Some truly can't spell, some can't type, and some are kids or just young at heart, who think it's kewl to use
"alternative word choices" while browsing the internet. If this makes you nuts, you must be agitated alot!

Because of chatspeak. Also some people forget how to spell. And some people type so fast that the letters become jumbled up.
