You are one of the more rational people asking questions here. What is up with this junk - I'm serious. I'm all for fun and a little debauchery but modern day Rap clownery is insulting to both blacks and whites. How could people fall for this stereotyping, ingnorant mess. You would think that it would be cooler to have people think you are smart and educated vs. ignorant, violent etc. LAME

Well when the Tootsie Roll came out, plenty of people shook their heads. I don't think the dancing was that bad...now the song is horrible! But I think when I see kids dancing like that to music, it reminds me of how music used to be fun, and you didn't have to worry about hearing about people getting shot up and stuff. Now that pop lock and drop it crap, drives me crazy. I think no matter what, people will always have something to complain about. Now if you see a bunch of girls grinding and bumping...then let me know...because that is a serious problem.

Welcome to the mainstream. It isn't a black/white thing, it's a money thing. It's a whole lot easier for record companies to turn businessmen into entertainers than it is to tame/deal with a real artist. Instead of trying to get...The Roots, Mos Def, Talib Kwali to write dance songs for the 12-18 crowd (the age group buying 80% of the music) they just hire someone who works hard and is money hungry. Tell them what they want to sell and POOF!!!! Bad music that sells. Those kids aren't music fans. They just want to dance so they can get some girls. Nothing wrong with that.
Music is a hobby. If you enjoy it, you won't mind spending time finding what your looking for. It's out there, just not on MTV and the radio.

Unfortunately, I can't look at the link you posted but I do understand your concerns. It seems that dancing and music has gotten weirder and stupider as another generation of kids become young adults.
At the same time, I'm sure that some of the older ones that watched us do the "Tootsie Roll", "Butterfly" and the "Peculator" thought the same things about us so your thoughts about today's music aren't new.

Back in the day - not that long ago - it was music and moves from the street. Now it is corporate decisions in pop culture from the 50th floor of a multi-national entertainment company tower. And those folks only care about sales and consumption.

Yea........ there's not much I can say. People are losing their brain cells....
You really have to look for the good music these days... I guess if you have kids just make sure they hear good music as well so this isn't all they are exposed to.
By the way here are the lyrics if you can't make them out...
