None. A touchback occurs when the ball becomes dead in the receiving team's endzone on a kickoff or punt by downing or being tackled depending upon the level of play. Also, a fumble through the defensive team's endzone also causes it to become dead and be a touchback if neither team secures possesion in the endzone before momentum carries them out of bounds. The ball is placed at the 20 yard line and play resumes from that point.

RE:
How many points is a touchback worth in American football?

A touchback is not a scoring mechanism in football.

A touchdown on the other hand is worth 6 points and is followed up by the extra point (worth 1 point) which is a kick from the 3 yard line

A touchback?? Well you don't get any points for touchbacks, although maybe your meaning of a touchback is different from ours. There are a few different scenarios in which a touchback occurs, and the result is receiving the ball at your own 20 yard line.

Your thinking of a saftey. Thats two points. A touchback is when a player downs the ball in the endzone(like on a kickoff). A saftey is when your defense tackels the offensive player in his own endzone.
