Well heres the deal.
My boyfriend is headed off to college in August for his freshman year, and they are allowed to have fish in his dorm.
I am getting him a fish bowl with a fish, but I don't know what kind of fish can live in a bowl without an aerorator (oxygen pump).
What kind of fish can I get him that will live in a bowl?
please help.

<3 Kelly.

Not a goldfish. They require much more than people think in order to stay healthy. A betta fish is the best bet;; but don't use a tiny bowl like you get them in. All they really need is to be fed every two days, and thier water changed.

Goldfish CANNOT live in bowls, period. Please do not get one.

Assuming that your boyfriend actually wants a fish, I'd go with a single betta. He should get the biggest bowl (or ideally a small tank, at least two gallons) as he's allowed to have in the dorm.

Look I think your bf is going to be very busy and won't have time looking after a fish of any kind. Nowadays they have these small simulation fish tank and the fish looks really real, buy him one of those, his friends will be impressed too

none because vets and fish owners recommend that you not keep fish in bowls because it is cruel boring and uniteresting also you can buy small tanks to put goldfish in you will have a happier healthier fish

Beta fish. They enjoy still water.

They're pretty as well.

DO NOT PUT 2 BETA FISH IN THE SAME BOWL - they will fight until they die.

definitely get a betta. goldfish are hard to keep because when they pee they release a lot of ammonia and unless he's willing to clean it very frequently, like daily, it's just too much work. bettas are much easier to keep and require less food. they also come in lots of pretty colors. and not all of them just sit around either, mine are very active.
