You need to get training and experience. Find acting classes and gain experience outside of school if possible. Start with local theatres and branch out from there. What live theatres are neares to you? Check out their websites and see what shows they have coming up and if their auditions are listed on their websites. Would your parents make the commitment to driving you to rehearsals every night? Figure that out first and then move on.

Once you find that you and your family can make that commitment, you can move on to auditioning for student films and other projects to build a resume and then try to get an agent.

If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You can look up agents all over the US, but there are higher concentrations where the work is (Los Angeles, NY, IL, FL, GA etc.)

Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. You can also see if your state has a film alliance. Sometimes they post audition information for projects filming locally. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or www.actorsequity.org (click on casting call) If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying.

good luck

Before anything ask yourself this, why do I want to be an actor? If you answered for the money and/or fame you've made the wrong choice. You're going into a field where you most likely won't make a living. You'll need another job even if it's teaching acting. If someone wanted to become a surgeon simply for the money with no passion for it they would most likely wash out. Same with acting. There are tens of thousands of professional actors who's names you will never hear. If you don't care and are willing to live with being one of them then by all means do it.

School plays and community theatre are the best way to start to build up a resume. than gradually work your way up to professional productions.this could take a while, but its the only way to do it right

Lucky! Your parents agree with it =). Audition for plays in local theatres and get an agent.

if your school put on plays join them cause my school travels around to bigger places to put on shows and to win them and you will slowly move up the ladder if your school doesn't put plays on then find an actingplace close to you and join there cause they would also go to other places to compete for titles and if another school/acting school see's how good you are they might ask you to goin them (sometimes they even pay for it if your good enough) so good luck
