fishkeeping can be alot of money, and if you try to not pay your dues and cut corners, it will get expensive.

The basic is not a goldfish.. That tends to be one of the most epensive. The lowest would be a betta splenden. Easy to care for, but you will need to get a large bowl or small tank.

Research...You will need to do alot of research about fishes and then prove you know all about them to get a fish. If i were a parent i would make my kid know everything about them.

The best way to show that you are responsible enough for fish is to do research. Plan to start off with a 10-20 gallon tank and some easy fish like Guppies. Then, as you get more obsessed with fish, you will want more challenging fish. Plan out where the tank will be, how much it will cost, what the fishes' requirements are, and how YOU are going to pay for them. Get your parents to take you to the pet store (or Walmart, but only get equipment their, no living things), add up the total costs of a tank, a heater, a filter rated for your tank size, gravel (1-1.5 lbs. per gallon of tank), decorations, and a stand (Don't make other things into a stand, when full, your tank will weigh more than 100 lbs. A counter would work fine.). Make sure the tank isn't in direct sunlight and is in an area of fairly constant temperature. Good luck!

Also, research, research, research. If you aren't willing to do that, you aren't ready for fish.

I agree with BettaChris. The best way to convince your parents would be to do your research. I think a Betta would be the best choice for you. Go on line to all the Betta sites you can find. Read about the proper way to care for them, what illness they are susceptible to and anything else you can find out. Then, if you decide that you still want to put in the time to properly care for your fish, go to your parents and tell them what you have learned. Tell them you have given it a lot of thought, done your research and are willing to put in the time it takes. That's gonna be the best way to convince them that you are serious about it and not just going off on a whim.

All fish are dirty and will require 1/2 an hour a week from you because you must change atleast 1/3 of their water and remove alage. Surprisingly even fish can become expensive as tanks are hundreds of dollers, pumps are between 20 and 60 and consitient effort inmaintaing a clean tank is tiring.

most people have fish at home pets alot more easier to take care of than other animals i don't see why they wouldn't let you,,you make their tanks look pretty their a great center point of a room, just ask them,,it shouldn't be to much for a little tank one fish and a few decorations ,,if u get a normal cold water fish like goldfish or so you don't need a pump and u only have to clean out a tank once a week.here is a site i looked up for you it has the price of tanks, plants etc,,http://www.petco.com/petco_Page_PC_productlist_Nav_217_N_24+115.aspx they do a lil one for $5.00 you get that tank one fish an plants shouldn't cost no more than $20 u can always be a bigger thank then for birthday or so,,but for your 1st fish that would be better its wat i had,,just say to your parents i would like something to take care of an be responsible for,,they wont say no then lol,, hope i helped hun ,,let me no if they let u get one or not haha xx
