First, go back and put the old cap on. See if it will start then. If not I would check that you put the rotor on correctly and in the correct position (should only fit one way). If still no start check with the cap and rotor off see if the points are "bumping" open and close. If they are check the gap. Check that something simple has not happened like the rubbing block broken off the points. Check that the primary circuit is providing power to the coil.

with the cap off, pull out number 1 spark plug. look at the side of the motor and number 1 will be on the bank that is the closeset to the front of the car. have someone bump the car over until that cyl comes up on compression stroke, the timimg marks will also be close to top dead center, now you have a starting point and rotation for your firing order, which should be stamped onto your intake manifold.

Did you forget to put the rotor back in the distributor? I did that once. Do you have the correct firing order? Are the points gapped correctly? Other than that, there's nothing else unless you did other work not mentioned.

Do you have the firing order correct? 15426378 The distributor rotates counter-clockwise. Cylinders 1 and 5 are closest to the front of the car.

If that was the order you put the wires in, then it won't start. You need to put it in the firing order. That will be on a decal under the hood, in a Haynes manual, or in your owner's manual. If the order is right then check the points.

Keith is correct, if you replaced the rotor also, you need to make sure the points are open before pushing the rotor into place, if you didn't you could damage the part that rides on the rotor cam.

You've got your wires crossed, check your manual.
