many things can cause a blowout. Underinflation cause abnormal wear on the tire. Over inflation does the same. (as the air in the tire increases in temp., it expands). Running over a nail or such will cause a slow deflation. Another could be, that the steel belts in the side wall were damaged or broken do to hitting a pothole, curb, etc. This would cause a bubble in the side wall. As the air expands, the bubble could burst"explode". Instant flat. and extemely dangerous.

The number one cause of "blow out" is a tire with low air pressure on a hot day. Low air in a tire causes it to develop high heat very quickly, which leads to blow outs. Also, he could have hit something on the road. If it was a new car/new tire, it should be under warranty.

underinflation is the #1 cause of tire failure.
faulty tire is probably more likely with a new car as the dealer should've checked the pressure.

A defective tire. Or a lot of debris on the road. It should be under warranty so there shouldn't be any problems getting it replaced.
