First of all, if the officer is asked "Are you a cop?", he will answer "Do I look like a cop?", instead of giving a direct yes or no. He isn't lying, just not giving a straight answer. Secondly, YES he can and will arrest you. Hope this doesn't upset your defense in your trial for prostitution !!

Yes they can arrest you.

A part of their cover is to appear to be an everyday person hiring a prostitute. The Supreme Court has ruled that law enforcement officials have some latitude in being able to lie to obtain evidence for crimes. This includes maintaining a cover to "collar" a criminal.

It isn't entrapment because the cop isn't forcing the individual to offer up sex for money. As long as they don't make the suggestion of sex for money, and as long as they don't set a price for the "transaction", then they aren't tricking anyone into committing a crime.

So don't bother with asking. They are going to tell you they aren't, and you will get arrested.

Yes. COPS LIE ALL THE TIME. It's called Undercover work. If they couldn't, they would never be able to arrest anybody.

A cop does not have to answer the "are you a cop"? question truthfully...that is nothing more than an urban myth. If cops were required to answer truthfully it wuld be impossible to go undercover

ummm...YES!! Cops don't have to tell you they are a cop. I don't know why people think that. They are allowed to lie. They are also allowed to lie in an interrogation if they think it will get you to confess too!
