I am a Goldwater conservative, and I believe abortion should only be allowed if the woman is going to die otherwise or if the woman was raped. If you seriously think that abortion should be legal in all cases to irresponsible women who could have taken preventitive measures and who should have been more responsible, and then go on to have a baby killed, you are whacked and sound like a communist.

I know most liberals are decent people, but I have heard about several that make me scratch my head.

I agree with you. I used to be pro choice until I had my twin boys and saw their little hearts beating at 5 weeks. Yes cells will become a baby, and no, there is no "magic moment" where you know for sure they are officially a baby, even if laws spell it out for you.

I guess I just don't understand why a woman isn't held responsible for her actions. Why can't she take nine months out of her life to have the baby and give it up for adoption? She already has the right to hold the boyfriend (in many cases) responsible for child support for 18 years if she elects to have the baby......but there is no built-in responsibility for her?

People make poor choices. Abortion should be legal, safe and rare. If a child is born into a bad invironment, where neglect, drug abuse and violence is prevalent, where would you assign the blame if that child ends up committing a heinous crime as a result of his upbringing? You're not any better by aborting that human after the crime has been committted through capital punishment. Education is the name of the game, and some conservatives have a problem with welfare for single mothers who can't even afford contraception. Nobody is perfect, and the ONE that was... Well...they crucified him!!!

Most liberals are intelligent enough to be able to differentiate between a mass of cells and an actual human baby, so they know that abortion is not the same as killing a baby.

Please, tell me why the life of the mother is more valuable than the life of what you think is a baby, or why what you think is a baby is not deserving of life if it was created through rape? It is clear through your own thinking that you don't really believe it to be a baby, because if you did, you wouldn't support any exceptions. You just want a way to control women.

Only 20% of people think there should be ann outright ban on abortion. Sorry to tell you, that other 80% is made up of republiucans as well as democrats. You can argue with the figure but it doesn't change the fact that your views are in the minority.
Why the exception for rape? If the rapist is known to not be a blood relative I don't see the rational, from a pro life standpoint, for allowing an abortion under those circumstances.

the whole question, hinges on whether you believe a fetus to be baby. A baby implies that it can survive outside the womb without its mother. While this is possible after 7ish months, it is not possible within the frist 5. Therefore, it must be considered part of the mothers body, thus giving the mother the right to do what she pleases. Although you may not agree, and I am guessing you wont, a person should have the right to treat his/her body in any way they want.

However, to return to my point, your post illustrates the idea that once concieved, a fetus is a baby, which I do not believe to be true.

Here we go again.... Is it so hard for you to understand that if you make abortion illegal, you just make sure that instead of one life, you end up killing two, because you will not stop abortion, just make it go underground again. And that helps no-one. Dirty tables, dirty instruments in nasty places.

I do not believe that abortion should be used as birth control, but for women who get pregnant because their birth control failed them through no fault of their own, who I am to make a value judgement? I would not have an abortion, myself, but I don't think the government has the right to tell me or any woman that we can't have an abortion.

You mean the million kids the economic sanctions killed in Iraq?
By the way, communists get their people fed and taken care of. In the US indigent people crowd the streets. You pretend this is not happening by going to other countries and murdering millions of people.
What do you have you did not steal? you stole oil from Venezuela. You imposed a dictator on Iran to steal oil from them. You have your army in Colombia forcing the poor to work for miserable wages, murdering their union leaders. Is there any revenue that comes into the US that is not the result of a coup, an invasion or the corruption of a foreign government?
And you still don;t take care of your people? Cuba is poor. Its people are taken care of even though it is imder an embargo.

Currently you are murdering a million people in Iraq, protecting dictators around the world in order to protect your corporations investments, you have the CIA destabilizing democratic regimes....
Where do you get the idea that you have the moral ground to say anything? Your whole society is sociopathic and does not deserve to be paid attention to.
Please, stop terrorizing us with your guns and get back to witch hunting. We prefer it when Americans are persecuting one another for whatever bogus prejudice that maybe itching you barbarias and leave the civilized world to cultured people.

I am a liberal, because right-wingers say I am, soooo....
I think abortion is wrong; however, I think the alternative will cause far greater problems, cost far more to enforce than anyone wants to fork over, and will not stop a person who wants one from actually obtaining one. It will only serve to give organized crime another way to make more money than a college grad, and prevent regulation from government and health care provider's policies.

So what do you think has the greater chance of saving children?
A. hospital policies and government regulations that do not allow a child to be aborted as they are being born, while abortion is legal, or
B. a mobster being paid $5000 to get rid of it, because abortion was banned?

How are they going to fund abortion ban enforcement??
take a wild guess.
Hint: it has to do with your taxes, and it doesn't have to do with them going down.

If you truly believe life begins at conception, then thee can be NO extenuating circumstances. If embryos are human beings then they must be accorded all of the rights of a human being. Any pregnant woman who does ANYTHING that might harm the child (smoking, drinking, taking medications, improper diet, etc) would then be prosecuted for child endangerment. Miscarriages would automatically become murder investigations.

Personally, I hope the government passes laws to give embryos citizen status. Then I can start collecting them, storing them in my freezer and claiming them as dependents on my tax return.

How many conservatives support responsible universal access to contraception and comprehensive sex education?

Why not take positive steps to REDUCE teen pregnancy and abortion?
