Psychologists and teachers can easily find jobs in the many school districts in the Houston area: Katy ISD, Tomball ISD, Klein ISD, Spring ISD, Aldine ISD, Cy-Fair ISD (the best), Houston ISD to name a few.
Colleges in the area: Houston Baptist University, St. Thomas, University of Houston, Prairie View A&M, University of Texas at Austin (2 1/2 hour commute); Texas a&m University (90-mile commute).
NW Harris county is where I live, with newer homes, no city taxes as many of the areas aren't within any city limits.
Leisure: museums, aquarium, nearby Galveston with it's history and beaches, cinemas, live theater with Broadway debuts; professional football, baseball, men and women's basketball, hockey.
Yes, the Osteen's family church is located in Houston.
Lakewood what? - the church - no, I don't personally.
Big events: professional and college athletic events, International Festival, Art Car parade, major holiday parades, etc.
Population of people? Do you mean ethnicity - we are a melting pot.
Our crime rate is no worse than any other metropolitan area.

I like Houston. Look up Ebony Magazine and they'll consistently rate Houston in the top 10. I'm an old white boy BTW. The pluses include the best seafood in the world. Fishing is good. Galveston is closeby. The art museum is a joke.
Where to live? Somebody else will have to tell you that. The demographics change so rapidly there it is astonishing. Ask somebody about Bellaire. Overnight it became Spanish-speaking.
Houston is a medical city. Steer clear of Jefferson Memorial nuthouse. University of Houston is rated by the American Psychological Association.
Jazz Festivals. Big name concerts. Ballet. All the performing arts rival Dallas, yet Houston is never as class-conscience as DFW. Houston is more blue collar than white collar but close enough to the ocean that informal dress mixes with formal.
Crime is overbearing there. You must watch yourself. Not dangerous, costly. If I were you, I'd seek out other opinions about what area of town, get you a nicer apartment to learn about commuting within the city and leave your heavy stuff in storage back in TN until you fell comfortable in a more permanent residence. I emphasize I do like Houston, but even the police feel overwhelmed. Personally, I would own a handgun for around the house. I don't mean to scare you. I feel more positives than negatives. I'm not there, living right now, but if I was, you'd be invited over for a backyard cookout.
Good luck. I think you could do more there.

Are there any good jobs for psychology or childcare graduates, if so where if you know?
Need more information. You say you are right out of college. What kind of training do you have in psycology? Are you a counselor, therapist etc... You need a license from the state of TX to work in that role.
Are there any good schools for continuing our education?
University of Houston has 3 campuses in Houston
Rice University
University of St. Thomas
Houston Bapistist University
University of Phoenix
And Houston being such a large city means we have several weekend campuses for major universities like Univeristy of TX and Tulane.
What areas should we live in?
I have always lived inside the loop. This refers to the center of the city inside the freeway call Loop 610. Until you really get to know Houston you may want to be centally located. If you do need to commute for work you will be moving against traffic.
What is there to do there for leisure?
This is a big city, there any type of leisure you may be into. We have a theatre district, a museum district, zoo, the beach in 1 hour away, a very small network of hike and bike trails, Lake Conroe, professional sports, rodeo, etc...
We are interested in Joel Osteen's church, Lake wood church?
Does anybody attend Lakewood?
I do not and I cannot comment.
What are some names of big city events that go on in Houston, i.e. in Nashville, there is an African Festival and we have some random events?
Greek Festival in Oct.
Bayou City Arts Festival in the Spring and Fall
Thanksgiving Day Parade in Nov
Lights in the Heights Festival in Dec
MLK Day Parade(s) in Jan
Mardi Gras in Galveston around Feb or March
Houston Rodeo in Feb.
Houston International Festival in April
Art Car Parade in the Spring
Texas Freedom Festival in July 4th
What population of people are there mostly there?
For the best results look at the demographics page in the City Houston website.
How is the crime rate?
Just like any major city there is crime. Be carful and take resonsibility for your safety.
What African American events are there?
I'm not African American so other than the MLK Day Parade and the Junteeth events I don't know of any more. The local African American newspaper is the Forward Times.
Is it a good place to raise a family & live for good?
Yes.

Houston is a cesspool. The crime is horrible & so is the traffic. If you like sweating your butt off, people who can't drive or speak English by all means check it out. I lived here almost 32 years & I'm ready to move up to mountains in Colorado. I'd look into Denver, Albequrque, or if you're into African American culture there's also St. Louis. I'm not trying to influence you against H town I'n giving you fair warning..Visit @ your own risk!
There are some good suburbs to raise kids but most of them are on the outskirts where it's also more expensive: examples: League City, Clear Lake, Woodlands & Sugarland.
FYI: Lakewood is a bogus overcrowded Church: It USED to be the Summit where all the great rock concerts were held but NOOO more. No offense but it's a superificial church as most are~

Apply at any school district. Plenty of jobs out there.
I don't know anything about Lakewood, being of a different denomination.
Greater Houston has a population over 5 million. Houston itself is about 2 million.
Crime is a sore point, thanks to 150,000 Katrina refugees who refuse to get jobs or go home.
Houston has an International Festival that is huge.

Although I think Austin is a better city than Houston. Houston ranks as one of the best cities for African Americans. The North and West sides of Houston are usually the best. Crime is not the WORST in America but knowing where not to go and taking precautions will help because there is no need to be paranoid.

For Professionals, like yourselves, I would suggest either Rosenburg, Sugarland, or Spring, Texas....they are all a part of Houston. In the medical field that you and your spouse are in, there should be no problem finding employment and furthering your education. Texas Children Hospital, surely could use someone with your credentials. Good Luck

One of the most common questions spouses ask when confronting a marriage crisis is this: How can I save my marriage if my partner doesn't want to help find a solution? How do I succeed I am trying to save my marriage on my own? Learn here https://tr.im/fNzui
It is a typical enough story: one partner leaves, the other stays. One remains 'in love', the other is uncertain. Whatever it is that has caused a couple to be apart, the one person who remains bears the prospect, fear, doubt, desire, hope of saving his or her marriage' alone.
