I would like to know why so many people have a negative attitude towards Venus and Serena William.
I mean they are great tennis players so i don't see why so many people hate them. I've heard people accusing Serena of faking her injury during a match when they know perfectly well she was in pain.
On top of that people say they think they're the most important players on the court which i don't think is the case.
So what is the real reason for hating these two great tennis stars? Is it becuase they've won so many matches or what?

and these are the same people who would rush to get their autographs if they met them in real life but they have the nerve to say that they are big headed and serena is a drama queen.

Yes tadeeb, it's true. If they were white they would have been praised to the highest level but because they are black ladies and great players at the same time, people don't like it. And they are always quick to say that people are playing the race card when they know that race has everything to do with it.

i have a pretty good idea of who or what generated this question!
to answer your question, the only thing that come on my mind is that some peoples consider them self's big tennis experts, and they are most likely under 10 years old (or they intelligence is lesser than the one of a 10 year child).
and, even if i know that this has nothing to do with your question, I'll tell you shortly why i don't like the Williams sisters.
first of all, look at their attitude on court.i don't question the fact that they are really good tennis players but so many times they seem to be struggling to win a point (especially Serena).their entire game it's based on their strength, they don't develop a game strategy.all they are doing it's hitting that ball as powerful as they can.
as for their appearance an the field all i can say is that, for somebody who said once that might end his tennis player career for the fashion world, they are scary. look at Venus on Wimbledon:as far as i know the bra should be under the dress not on top.
i could tell you many more things i don't like at them but the bottom line is that out there on the field they don't look to me like a tennis player should be.
P.S: this has nothing to do with the color of the skin, chanda rubin was black too and i liked her.

Honestly this is not a situation to play the race card. The statement that people generally dislike the Williams sisters is erroneous. They are both very likeable, especially Venus. In the US they are two of the most prominent figures in sports. That could not happen if they were arrogant or big-headed. They have matured greatly and are now calm and level-headed on the courts. I personally am with tennis players all day every day. I have attended both the US Open and Wimbledon multiple times. I am well versed in the subject and I can confidently say that in the US they are generally liked. In other countries they are not received as well but that is simply because they are American and the rest of the world doesn't like Americans. The Williams sisters are two great girls. I have nothing but sympathy for them after the recent loss of their sister in a tragic accident.

Well the thing about the williams sisters is the fact that they are only good at power. They have don't have as much skill when compared to other players. They only hit the ball as hard as possible in the general opposite direction. Due to this their games are not as entertaining for the viewer. Its true that you have to work toward your strangths but as a tennis pro you still have to work on other things. They lack strategy and hardly ever see them win a point on a well thought out shot. The way they dress on the court is just unbelievable. Tennis is know as a gentleman's sport and a grand slam like wimbledon even has a dress code. It has nothing to do with race as most people have said. Its also a matter of personal preference a person can dislike and any player its really their choice.

Let me start by saying when they first came on the tour I was a HUGE fan. They both play amazing tennis....their playing isn't the issue for me at all.

Their attitude to other players even when they first starting playing on the tour leaves a lot to be desired.. They were overly cocky, rude and showed no sign of respect to anyone. With that I feel they made more enemies than friends. And why? Most of the tour was only too happy to have they play.

Of the two,Venus is a lot more sporting but Serena really needs to stop the excuses every time she loses an important match. At the French this year after Justine hammered her she said all Justine had to do was 'show up'. Not classy at all. At Wimbledon is was the same issue. I'm not sure if this is all their fathers doing but if they were a little more honest and a little less aloof they wouldn't be hated nearly as much as they are now.

To me, the reason many people dislike the Williams Sisters is partially because of race. Especially in the beginning of their tennis career. Thats one of the reasons their dad kept them from junior competition.
Yes they are like considered the bad guys cause their not the same as everyone else on tour. One becasue of their race, two because of their body image. The fact that they are srtonger which many wouldnt think as feminine, which they are, i mean look at the pics of them off court.
Also the fact that they heavily believe in their abilities as a player and being able to win, win, win. So because of this, they may be seen as cocky. But i say why not, i mean they are very accomplished in a white dominated sport.
I cant see how ppl dont like them because of the style of play. The Williams sisters been playing like that since they came on the scene. But ppl have diff. game styles they like.
I for one am a big Williams fan, but i respect others players game like Henin and Mauresmo.
But its so evident that the "race card" has a thing to do with ppl dislike toward the sisters so why ignore it.
People also dislike them cause they think they're money hungry. Meaning they come to big events and win the purse, which i think is so wrong. They are great people and role models for inspiring tennis players and especially for many other minorities in the sport of tennis.
But i must say, many matches wouldnt be as entertaining to watch if the Williams sisters were to never revloutionize the game as they did to the point that it even made a 5-time major chamion Martina Hingis say that part of the reason she left the tennis was the power game.

I don't care about them being black at all.

On court, I don't fancy their one-dimensional "just hit as hard as you can" style (ditto for Sharapova), I prefer a more rounded game like Henin or Mauresmo. Granted they are terrific athletes, but they don't have a richly strategic game. Of course, it may cater to many others' taste.

Off court is where I and many others hate the Williams most (especially Serena). If you follow their quotes and press conference along their careers, you can't deny their *********, never crediting opponents, making excuses for losses. Venus is much better now but Serena is still very ungracious.

They're too cocky. Tennis known as a gentlemen's sport and they just don't have any sportsmanship. Look at Federer, he's on the road to becoming the greatest tennis player of all time but he still maintains his modesty and sportsmanship. Even if the William's sister are good, you just don't say you're great and bash everyone else. Let the results speak for themselves.

There are many reasons to dislike a player, but if people wish to throw in the race card, whatever. I honestly don't like Serena, because of her style of play and her attitude (I don't mind Venus). And then there are commentators like Carrillo, who absolutely idolizes the sisters and nevers shuts up about them, hardly ever mentioning the competing player except to criticize their play. I'm a huge Henin fan and I absolutely love the way she works the court and mixes her shots. I always feel like she is an underdog when competing with hard hitters like Mauresmo, Serena, and Sharapova despite her number one ranking.

Both the sisters are great players and fit very well for their
athleticism. Many dislike, because they are on the top and
specially Serena does not give credit to her opponent when
she looses and never when she wins. In addition, because of
race, color, jealousy all add up. I would guarantee that if they
were of the other color, I would not see them being hated as
much. Very good examples are all Russian, Belgium and
French and other US players like Capriati, Davenport....
None are blamed or disliked as much as these 2 sisters.

Also to add more fuel, their dad, Richard is their coach and
manager and try to find faults when none are found. It is
disgracing for all those fans and administrators to treat them
like the way they are treated.

Almost all women tennis players are becoming show models
and William sisters are no different. Yet they are the most
disliked....

For all those fans who hate them, remember that they are
after all God created human beings. I would love to see them
win many more slams and tournaments.

Go William sisters....

This has nothing to do with race. Serena always talks bad about her opponents and Venus was furious when she made less money as the wimbledon champion than the men ($1.14 million vs $1.19 million). Big difference. I don't like her because i believe men should make more than women in tennis due to the fact that they are 100 times as good and work much much harder.
