It's possible they would survive and in fact probable. Even though, I would suggest you wait until you return from holiday just to be sure you are there for the end of the cycling process and in case any disease brought in with the fish is caught in time to treat. Caution and patience are key to successful aquarium keeping.

I would wait because there could be some problems with putting fish in a new tank and you need to watch it carefully. If you are not there when one dies, the other fish will start to eat it and it can considerably raise the ammonia level, which may in turn start to kill other fish.
If you have them for a couple weeks before you leave and everything seems fine, there are "blocks" that will feed fish for 14 days sold at most pet stores. In any event, I would recommend getting no more than 3-4 fish before you leave.

my fish survived for 2 weeks without food when i was away but they were fed well before and had plants they like to eat. I have big gold fish though so not 100% for your fish. Holiday blocks are pretty useless.

Forgive my ingnorance but a fortnight is two weeks, right? Make sure you feed them before you leave. They should be ok without eating for the two weeks (I believe) I have heard a lot of people say that they won't die if you do that and that it is better than having someone inexperienced come in and over-feed them while you are gone.

i would let your tank to continue to cycle while you're gone and just get the fish when you get back. or, if you REALLY want the fish, you should get a timer for the lights, and they make food that will sit in the tank for a while, i know we bought one that lasted a week.
personally i would just wait tho, it can hurt to get your tank and little more equalized anyways before adding the fish.
