The problem is most likely a dirty air filter.

Try using the choke. I imagine you are not giving it enough choke for a long enough period. Also make sure there is not a gas valve or gas line that is shut off. Finally, loosen the gas cap a little. The vents in the gas cap may be plugged thereby not allowing gas to go down into the gas lines due to a vaccuum in the gas tank that can occur after so long if the vents on the cap are plug. If that's the case you will need to replace the gas cap.

Like a car - there are other things that could be clogged. the carbs or air filter... could be the blade is fouled up.
I'm not mechanically inclined, so I took mine down to Sears. for $40, they did a "tune up" and even sharpened the blade... new sparkplug and it runs like a champ... even when it's now over 20+ years old! Good luck!

Check the air filter, check your oil, check any wiring for cuts, double check that you have the right spark plug, check your carb, make sure there's nothing under it tangled in the blade(s), and if all else fails then bring it to a repair shop because it could be an internal issue with the motor.

On my lawnmower there is a knob to turn off the gas, it's down by the engine. Make sure it is in the right position.

Have you checked and changed the oil? If that doesn't work, it's most likely a mechanical or electrical problem that you'd need a mechanic to fix.

Could be the air filter.
Remove, clean it, put it back and try. May need a new one depending on its look.
