A server provides services and resources and a workstation uses those services and resources.

The server is a centralized computer that stores everything and allows all the workstations to connect to it via network be it wired or wireless.

The workstation is were you work on files directly from the server.

the benefits of a server is that all user have access to all files even ones other users have manipulated or use.

to put it in simple terms...a server is huge computer that controls workstations to the specs of the network admin.
