my auntie has a laptop and we wanted to reformat it but i press the boot and after that the screen appear an _ << underscore that blinks and we've wait what happend after a minute the screens turn to black but the laptop is on, .., then if we restart it or turn it off,, it appears back to the underscore blink, i dont know what to do.. can anyone help me?

to reformat it, you need either XP CD-rom or a Boot diskette (floppy disk for installing Windows 98).
Put either into its drive, and restart.
If you have the same results, you need to go into CMOS setup and set the boot order to boot to your CD-rom or floppy drive.
If it boots to the XP CD-rom, follow the instructions to delete the partition, then create a new partition in the available space. Then continue on with the installation.
If you are installing Windows98, give more info..as it is quite extensive, and I wont waste time for it unless I know its what you need.
