My doctor was on vacation so I wasnt able to get an appointment with him but I had an appointment with the nurse yesterday who confirmed the pregnancy with a test. She said to call today and make an appointment, So I did and he cant get me in until August 15th, I will be 10 weeks pregnant. Should I try to look for a new doctor because I havent even gotten vitamins yet and i know how important they are, any advice would be appreciated. thanks

Call & ask if the nurse can give you vitiams, that's who usually does it anyone when they confirm pregnancy. I'm suprised they didn't. I worked in a clinic & the first visit was to confirm pregnancy, nothing more, & we always gave vitimans, along with the due date, then set them up to see the doctors, get bloodwork, etc. So calling & asking the nurse for the pills wouldn't be out of the question.

As far as not getting seen until August, it's not unheard of. One doctor didn't want to see me until I was almost 14 weeks along for the first time. Other doctors will see you as soon as you confirm pregnancy. If you don't mind changing doctors & would like to be seen sooner, call around & see what other offices have to offer, as far as how soon you can be seen.

No need to change unless you are unhappy with this doctor for some reason. Be sure you are comfortable with him ~ you're going to spend a lot of time with him! In the mean time you can pick up prental vitamins over the counter or call the dr. office and ask for a prescription. They all pretty much have the same ingredients.

Congratulations and Good Luck!

Sometimes Doctors Know What They Are Saying Sometimes They Make Misstakes But I Would Be Caim And Sit With Your Doctor And Ask Her Or Him Why Am I A High Risk....... Then From There I Would Ask More ?'S About What Kind Things Would I Be Able To Do.... Things Like That.... The Thing Is ASK Questions Thats The Best Thing You Can Do....

That seems a little weird. Maybe your doctor is too busy and you should try to look for a new doctor. I would say that it's ok but he didn't even see you the first time to talk to you or give vitamins. Also, walmart sells prenatal vitamins. It says right on it. You can get them for right now. Good luck and hope everything goes well!

10 weeks is still not that far along- prenatal vitamins could be obtained through a general practicioner as well as an OB/GYN, so why don't you schedule an appointment with your regular doctor in the meantime to get the vitamins and things you need for the first trimester, and then your regular OB/GYN can take over with your monthly checkups and the delivery.

I was almost out of my first trimester by the time I saw my Ob for the first time. Just the way their scheduling worked out. Confirming my insurance and then waiting over 2 weeks for an appointment. I would start eating healthier, taking prenatals, and not worry about it. Especially if you been to this doctor before and like them. It would be better to wait for someone you like... then have to go looking for another one that might not be as good.

Congrats!

if you really want that doctor then stay with him, You can get over the counter prenatal vitamins at CVS, or Walgreen's they have everything the other vitamins have, I didn't see the doctor til I was 8 weeks, All there going to do at your first one is give you a pap smear and take blood anyways! Its fine not to be seen til 10 weeks

OK firstly try and speak with the nurse again and ask about vitamins, folic acid is particularly important.

So my advice would be to speak to the nurse get some general questions answered and just wait to see your other doctor, trust me they don't do much during the first trimester.

All my love and best wishes

Get over the counter vitamins in the meantime. I went to my regular doc to get a prescription for vitamins, but I didn't get a chance to see my OB until I was 12 weeks. That's just the way she schedules things.

I would try to book an appt with another doctor if you can get in sooner somewhere else.
If not you can still get prenatals at walmart, target, kmart, or any drug store. They are cheaper than getting a prescription for them.
Good luck and Congratulations!
