Howard made his ML debut in his mid-20s, so unless he plays to around age 50 he's not going to crack the 700 Club. This really is an important factor, folks.
Also, given Howard's Mo Vaughn-like physique, which probably won't hold up very well past 35 (if that long), he might not still be around to hit 500 dingers.
Though he could start, someday, drinking magic potions, heh heh.

Howard started too late. He's 27 with 100 homers and A-Rod is 30 with 500. AROD could come close to 1,000 hr's if he plays until he's 42.

A Rod will be the all time HR King if he stays healthy. He started at 19 in Seattle, and that is why he will beat out Howard. Howard lost several years and home runs by coming up in his mid twentys, and this will cost him later in his career.

theres a slight difference between 100 HR and 500 HR
Howard can still bust. He still has the possibility of sliding into normalty and jsut being the average power hitter, not unlike Edgar Martinez. And Howard wont get it playing in the NL. if he ever makes it over to the AL he has a shot IFFF he keeps producing
ARod will undoubtedly be the next HR king after Bonds. After that is a toss-up. In this era of performance enhacers and juiced up balls, ARod might only have the title for a few years

A-Rod
Howard startes his ML career when he was 27 years old. A-Rod was 19. A-Rods already on pace to hit over 800 when Howard may never get to 500 because he started so late in his career.

Ryan Howard got a late start with his career and is almost 28 years old now. He would be lucky to reach 500 while A-Rod has a shot at 800.

A Rod hands down... esp if Howard doesnt have more protection around him, that will help him see more pitches. As it stands now, there is no one that you WANT to pitch to in the Yankees line up
