Okay, we bought a house, it was a foreclosure and they didnt clean at all but for 20,000 less than appraised value(it was in do it yourselfer didnt know what they were doing shape) but all fairly easy fixes countertops, refinishing floors etc, so I go to get started on the basement floor cleaning it(we are going to finish a playroom and office in here during the winter) and the previous owners had dogs yellow labs that they raised to sell, apparently keeping them in the basement while not potty trained, the floors do not look like they have been cleaned since 98 when they bought the house and after a couple swipes my mop water is black, any ideas on cleaning? I have water connections in basement, a drain and sump pump but we already installed the new furnace so we cant just power wash i am prego and cant be around major fumes, the stud work is all done down here(94') and i dont want to water damage it, floor will be painted before new flooring is put down.

A steam cleaner is the best way to clean without using a pressure washer. We have a McCulluch heavy duty one (not handheld) with a scrubber on the end. Best way to clean the kitchen floor and kids stuff by the way. We had the same problem in our house from dirt in the basement. Years if neglect, totally disgusting. We had to start in small areas and use tons of towels to wipe up after wards, lucky for us the washer is in the basement.

you need to inveset or rent a power washer! There are no fumes in a power washer. but i would have someone else do it! I worked in new contruction clean up - yes i have power washed LARGE GROSS NASTY basments some with dog droppings and man piss i guess people just don't care what they do at work!
I don't see why you can't power wash the basement I think you just don't want to do it that way and i'll tell you it will be the easiest more user friendly way then a mop and a bucket!
you could try your hose and if your worried about your furnace turn it off but the water will not hurt it just don't shot the thing! lol well you can i have leaves sweet marks! lol
Well best wishes to you!

I would turn off the furnace and cover with a tarp... You have a drain, just hook your hose up and wash whatever you can down the drain... Maybe if you have a stiff bristle broom you could use it to move the water to the drain(s).. Then you can mop the floor and clean it properly... DO NOT USE bleach until you at least give the floor a good rinse dog pee=AMMONIA+BLEACH =TOXIC FUMES.. Also, to help dry the floor get some air circulation with some fans and open the window you don't want a mold problem as well. Good luck and be well.

If you are VERY disgusted by it - you can always invite professional cleaners - they would know what to do with it.

Watever you wash it though - make sure it has a disinfectant in it, like Dettol. BTW - Dettol comes with nice pine and apple fragrance. It will take quite a few washes though.
I know you can sand-blast disgusting walls - maybe you can do it with concrete floors as well? It will also be a nice prep for painting them.

no matter what it's gonna be exhausting work.
Having a shop vac. may help a little.
using good old fashion soap and water will be the best, once all t6he grim is removed i would use a bleach solution on the floor. See if you can get some fans on the floor, it may help in the drying process.

good luck

I'd power wash the floor, and use a shop vac to pick up the dirty water. Can also use sand bags to help contain the water. Follow up with a good swab of bleach and water to kill any germs/mold/stink.

A water hose and a wet shop vac should get the worse of it. Elbow grease should get the rest.
