I am going to be transfering to LAs Vegas in about a year and I want to know where the areas are that I should avoid but are still close enough to UNLV so that it isn't a really long commute( 30minutes+). Thanks!

A lot of UNLV students live here
"Oasis Place" - These are nice studio apartments - $550
Located at Sierra Vista & Paradise

These are really nice 1br apartments - located in South Las Vegas, just off I-15.
"Villanova" - $584 - 725sq ft -
2815 W Ford Ave
1-866-398-5250 ext 7092

The area directly around UNLV isnt the best. While it is hardly a slum, it is certainly not a great area plus it is seriously congested over there.

I would suggest the Green Valley area of Henderson. It is only a few miles south of UNLV and is quite nice. It is all fairly new but old enough to have mature established schools and shopping areas.

Good luck on your move!

Yeah $400 a month really isn't going to cut it, unless you can find some roommates to split the rent. There are cheaper apartments closer to the strip, but they aren't necessarily safe. I recommend you try looking for apartments or housing in the Summerlin, Henderson, Spring Valley, and Southwest area if you want a safe neighborhood. Summerlin and Henderson might be out of your price range, but there are many safe neighborhoods in Spring Valley and the Southwest area. As for the transportation, I'd advise you to get a car ASAP because the public bus transportation system is not very reliable and it can take awhile to get to where you want to go.

It's really not that bad. It's like any other major city, traffic, crime, homelessness, etc. But if you keep your wits about you, you will be just fine!

If you are interested in buying a home in the ever growing buyer's market, send me an IM and I can get you pre-approved and connect you to a real estate agent who can find you a foreclosure.

Good luck on your move!
