The Turion-64 is a mobile processor, and is a better performer than a Pentium-4.

Older AMD chips tended to run faster and hotter than Intel chips in the same price range, but heatsinks/cpu fans handle that, no problem. The stories of overheating you've heard about are from gaming enthusiasts who overclock their systems. When you overclock (run the cpus at speeds higher than their rating) that generates a lot more heat, and requires better 3rd-party coolers. But running at stock speeds, the standard heatsinks are fine.

Currently the best chips on the market are the Core 2 Duos from Intel, followed by the X2 line from AMD. The Pentium series is obsolete.

Amd tl-64,Very good. Both legs of this dual core run at 3200. Most amds run a little hotter but cpu fan takes care of it. A fan pad for lap tops( amd or Pentium) is allways a good insurrance investment. 12vlt power adaptor for auto too.
