The RubberStuff mulch company website says that For landscaping - 1 bag of landscape mulch is recommended at 2" depth to cover 7 square feet. How many bags do I need if I just need to cover 1" inch depth?Because I already hae enough wood mulch underneath that I would not be moving.

Well, there are 9 square feet in 1 square yard so you will need about 7 bags.

You need 7 bags.

One square yard is 3 feet by 3 feet which equals 9 square feet.

5 x 9 = 45

7 bags x 7 sq ft/bag = 49 sq ft.

Six bags would only give you enough to do 42 sq ft. So six would not be enough.

If you buy 4 bags, you should have plenty to cover your 5 sq yds at a depth of 1". Here's how I got that answer:

1 bag = 7 sq ft at 2" depth = 14 sq ft per bag at 1" depth

5 sq yds * 9 sq ft/sq yd = 45 sq ft that you want to cover

45 sq ft to cover / 14 sq ft per bag at 1" depth = 3.21 bags

Good luck with your project.
