LONELY??? Are you serious!!! I don't think that was it. Maybe you don't know how to take care of your fish.

That happens sometimes. When you pick out your guppies, you need to be very careful about selecting them. Do not select the guppies that are kind of lethargic. Watch the ones at the pet store and pick the liveliest fish there, the one that's darting around the tank like a spaz. These are the healthiest fish and therefore most likely to live.

Also keep an eye out for white, fungus-y spots. This is indicative of 'Ick', a fish disease.

Transferring fish from a pet store to your home is a traumatic event for them. They're being carried around (completely unnatural for a fish) and dumped in strange places. Are you making sure to let the baggie float in the tank for 20 minutes before opening it to release the fish? This allows the water in the bag to adjust to the same temp as that in the tank, making it less stressful for fish.

Always make sure to get at least three fish. Count on at least one to die within the first day. You should have at least a 24 hour guarantee. Make sure to take advantage of that.

Good luck with your guppies.

Don't go get a Catfish, I assume you mean a Cory Cat, but they need to be in groups of 3+, and your tank isn't even big enough for one Cory. Stick with the Guppies until you know what is causing them to die. Guppies are very easy fish to care for, so if you kill the strong fish, you wouldn't want to make an expensive mistake...

Don't get fish at a petco or petsmart. Go to an aquarium and get them. At aquariums they ALL are experienced with fish, and deal with them on a daily basis.. At petco's and petsmarts, some of them have knowledge of fish and are novice's, but not near aquarium employees which are experts on fish.

As of now, don't get any more fish until you find out what the main cause of the deaths of the fish. It might be because they were stressed during the acclimation process.

They kill one another. I know males fight each other, but I got a male and female for my daughter. The male killed the female about 6 months ago and he still lives.
