I'm not an xml expert, but I do know that each Google template uses Google's own xml definitions BECAUSE OF the gadgets (and to let them work...), and, you may dig down into Google's help files to get definitions of their "widget" language...yes, I know, I'm rambling on, and on, without providing help! The best I can offer is, you may look at the full template by editing the layout and editing the html and expanding the full-blown widgets, then comparing this against the Help files to gain some enlightment. The widget language is rather simple-minded. Perhaps, once you see it, you may be able to imbed what you need. Otherwise, Google seems rather picky about what they will "let you" imbed...

You might also pursue the route of getting them to sponsor your function through their API program...?
