Okay I asked this ? yesterday but didn't get a good enough answer. I need to know if my transmission is slipping or does it sound like I need to change my tranny's filter. When I pull of my car is not kicking into 1st gear until I get up to about 35-40mph. Kicks into other gears fine. Sometime it does it in 2nd gear also. It revs up loud until it kicks into gear. Car has 220, 000 miles on it. What do you think? Need help because I might trade it off or get the filter changed. But I need some expert opinions.

there are more then just a few problems that could cause this first off yes the filter could cause it, low fluid will also do this
on the mechanical aspect sticky or worn 1-2 shift valves will also have this very same effect it could also be caused by a TPS sensor malfunction (which is very common) or a pressure regulator ( a reacquiring problem in overdrive tranny's since 93') 1-2 shift solenoid malfunction, or even the speedo sensor will cause this.. good luck and if you need any further help my e-mail is always open

You'll have to do some diagnosis as there is no way anyone can say a trans. has had it this way. The first thing to do is to check the fluid level and condition. You are looking for the trans. to be at the full level for whatever temp. it is that you are checking it at. The other is to see the fluid is clean and a blood red color. If those are both good, you will need to scan the PCM to retrieve any codes that can affect the way the motor and trans. operate. After this you can be pretty sure you have a problem inside the trans. Performing a trans. service will not correct a problem with the trans. as if the filter was completely plugged or partially plugged, the symptoms would be there all the time thoughout the gears. Good luck.

I probably would not service it if it has not been serviced regularly. You see through use the fluid does begin to break down and varnish begins to build up on the clutches and bands. By servicing the trans you will introduce new fluid which has a detergent in it. (all trans fluid has some detergent in it). I have seen it cause a lot of damage to a trans. If it is slipping now and the car now has 220,000 miles on it, it may be time to make a decision. Take it to a local trans shop and have them go through it or replace the car. To have them rebuild you trans you could be in the neighborhood of 800.00 which may exceed the value of the vehicle. But, You cant go buy a car you are comfortable with for 800.00.

The 700R4 is notorious for failing - better get it looked at.
Sounds like you need a new torque converter at least.

well your transmission is slipping horribly.. so that should answer your question.. but at 220,000 miles and a chevy i dunno what kind of trade value if any you would get on it unless its a vette..
