The sod is only 2 months old. Its in worse shape than the grass that I already had. I've treated for bugs but its still dying.

You probably just fried the lawn.
Next time, READ THE BAG.
Water (not at night) heavy and hope for the best.

Consider using a professional lawn service ASAP.

Don't put any fertilizer or anymore Summerguard on it. One thing you need to do is look on the back of your bags before you start use them. Many weed control fertilizers will kill off St. Augustine grass. My suggestion is to start watering your grass thoroughly. If you used any kind of weed killer or weed preventative that is probably what is killing your grass. Check with a local landscaping company or greenhouse to see what weed preventatives work with St. Augustine grass. And next time, read the back of the bag before buying it or using it.

My best guess is that the Summerguard is killing it.

Also some bug killers require that you water the lawn for about 3 days after you apply it so that the lawn doesn't get burnt by the chemical.

It could be several things lack of water have you cut it to low .
New sod takes a lot of water to grow at least 3 to 6 inches a week..Do not use any more scotts!!! Try using some lime on it next water in well this will balance the Ph.
And as for as cutting your St.Augustine 2 !/2 to 3 inches. In the fall try using 0-0- 45 this will help in root growth.

Cease any fertilizer- --- WATER WATER WATER in the morning. It may be too late for the sod that has already browned as sod usually won't have enought roots set out to for it resprout. This could be a specific problem due to any number of things. Basic rule of thumb is to water sod frequently- much more than established lawns. Never at night.

Check with someone at a nursery or a landscaping company. They should be able to give you some answers. Good luck. I have St. Augustine and it is absolutely beautiful (like walking on a carpet).
