I'm afraid seafood is expensive anywhere you go. Even on coastal waters or here on the Gulf coast.
Entrees here run $20.-$25 and up, such as "Market Price" on the menu. Those can run $35 up.
Any inexpensive seafood will always be previously frozen and no doubt imported from third world countries. Even those are not "cheap". Just don't taste fresh.

Supply and demand.

The best and all time seafood restarunt is bob chinns. They have one located in wheeling, and in chicago. The chicago one is a dress up, while the one in wheeling is far more casual. The food is the best around, Imported fresh daily! It is a little pricey, but if you go before dinner, you can find some good deals on the menu. There are other places like red lobster's, and crab shack's, but I really wouldn't compare it to the quality of food at bob chinn's.

I used to live in the Chicago area and my rule of thumb is do not eat seafood that is foreign to the nearest body of water. In other words if you are over 200 miles away from the place where the seafood may be caught, don't eat it.
