Coal comes from trees and plants etc that were buried thousands of years ago, so instead of chipping or burning used christmas trees etc why don't we bury them for coal for the future, also is it not possible that in thousands of years time, all the crap that we have put into landfills may turn into a fuel?

Well, it would take thousands of years for the christmass trees, etc. to turn into coal.

Landfills are currently used as fuel sources. The methane gas generated by decomposition of the waste is used to power boilers, turbines and internal combustion engines to generate electricity.

Hundreds of thousands to millions of years. So it's too long a time to be considered a practical plan. Things will happen, though.

It would be million of years, Willow (great name, BTW) We often put our Xmas trees into lakes to form "cribs" a kind of fresh-water reef to attract fish!
