No not particularly "dear",sometimes if the guy friend needs something in favor from me, that's the only time he calls me "dear" but most of the time he just call me by self.

Not all Filipino men call their friends dear. It is just the teenagers who call their girl "barkada" dear or babe; it has no meaning whatsoever. It is just a form of pet name given by both boys and girls to each other to show their closeness. However, the men I often hear who use this word are from the third sex. Sometimes they call you "darling".

yes. Filipinos are very loving even to their friends. Calling someone dear is pretty normal.

We don't. In fact, the term is so passe' that it is not generally used, even for spouses.

The few times I heard "dear" said is in the showbiz arena, mostly spoken by gay hosts and bading-like female hosts.

I don't recall ever being called "dear" by my straight male friends. Usually, the term is used by my gay acquaintances.

Some people naturally use terms of endearment such as that to people. And some people are just naturally "malambing" or affectionate to others. My guy friend and I call each other "love". It's just nothing.

Yep. I would say there are quite some. But I think the gays in our country are into using "dear".

In my own experience of "friendly and loving" male friends who treat me like their "bunso" (youngest sibling), 75% of the time they address me with various terms of endearment and none of them are attracted to me in terms of boy-girl relations. The few who refuse to call me "ga", "gwapa", "labs" "dear" "sweetheart" "darling" are the ones attracted to me. Very confusing, noh..

I don't recall any of my Pinoy friends calling me "dear." I'd been called honey, sweetums, tin-pie, sugar and such. The only ones calling me "my dear" are older folks, mostly relatives or family friends. My special someone calls me "mi amor" (my love) - he's Hispanic.

Yes they do, specially if they want to earn brownie points. I wouldn't say your friend is attracted to you, but he definitely finds you very likable. Filipino guys are usually very malambing (sweet) towards their female friends.
