Not a silly question - players from OUTSIDE the EU area require a work permit to play in the UK - it is generally granted to them if they have played a certain number of times for their country (thus satisfying the criterion that they have specialist expertise which cannot be sourced in the EU).

players with that kind of experience do not need a work permit. the barclays premiership has most of the best players in the world.

Only players from countries outside of the European Union need a work permit to play in the Premiership, and they can only get it if they appeared in 75 per cent of their national team's matches over the last two years.

yeah - as far as i remember, there was one player who had trouble with a work permit! after all, playing football is an occupation because you earn money from it and it is something that one does full time now (if they play football at all, that is!)..
