There are not very many true "man-eating" fish in the ocean. A "man-eater" is any type of fish that will devour human flesh as a food source. True man-eaters include the Great White shark, the Bull shark, the Hammerhead shark, and the Tiger shark. The Tiger shark will eat almost anything, even old discarded license plates and nails. However, the most dangerous man-eating fish is the Bull shark. The reason for this is because of their wide distribution and how closely they live to people. Bull sharks are even found in the Mississippi River from the delta and as far North as the state of Mississippi. These sharks have adapted to fresh and salt water, much like the Salt water crocodile, but are extremely dangerous. When you hear about shark attacks on the news, it is usually the work of a bull shark. Another shark, the Mako shark, is not a man-eater, because it lives in the open ocean where people seldom venture.

Piranha were once believed as man-eating fish however some says it is such an exaggerated notion. Piranha are popularly believed to form cooperative hunting groups that savagely attack larger animals, including livestock and even humans. The new research shows that instead, schooling seems to serve a defensive purpose.

The sharks could not be considered as man-eaters as infact sharks do not prefer to eat man because the sharks' digestion is too slow to cope with the human body's high amount of bone and low amount of muscle and fat . They still could attack man and leave after the first bite that could cause bleeding and serious injury.

that depends on a lot of things.
say if you dead in the middle of the ocean any fish will take a bite out of you, including sharks, piranhas, barracudas and a variety of other animals.
sharks are the most likely to take a bite out you while you are still alive. but scientists have proved that they dont really like eating human flesh, and there have been instances where sharks have spit out human flesh after they mistakingly bit us.
the sharks likely to attack are, hammerheads, tiger sharks, great whites.
sharks attack us because we are the easiest prey to catch, not because they particularly enjoy eating us.
piranhas have been known to take a bite or two, but there is no evidence that attacked and killed any human.
moreover, they only target injured or dead animals, not living ones. but they can take on small animals while they are alive, such as other fish.
and whales NEVER eat humans or anyother life forms even smaller than humans. they feed exclusively on plankton, very small creatures that are abundant in sea water.
there have been stories that they accidentally swallowed humans, but they are not that dumb, and if they did they would surely spit us out, not eat us.
so the best candidate for your question would be the shark.
but technically a man eater is an animal that has grown particularly fond of human flesh and starts attacking humans almost exclusively.
there are some animal that do this, such as alligators and crocs and tigers and lions that live in close proximity with humans.
if we take this fact into consideration, we cant call any fish man-eaters, because even the sharks dont behave this way.

The shark is usually the first fish that comes to mind when considering fish that attack man. Other fish also fall in this category, such as the barracuda, the moray eel, and the piranha

Piranhas & sharks crush the man's skin & eat them when they think that the danger is near. It's just for defense. No fish eats man when not needed.
