1/2 cup unboiled linseed oil, 1/2 cup malt vinegar, 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice. Combine the linseed oil and vinegar in a bowl and mix then stir in the lemon juice for a nice smell additive. Apply with a soft cotton rag (I use old socks and t-shirts) with a little elbow grease and anything wooden no matter the finish will shine really nicely.

I would separate the two things. clean first, then apply a wax finish. Hard to make one product that does both well in one application. The process of cleaning is to use a soap or solvent to loosen dirt and remove it from the surface. Then to get a shine, you want to oil or wax the surface. If you mix the two things, you end up with suspended dirt in your wax or oil.

beeswax a little goes a very long way and it is a very traditional; way of cleaning furniture giving it an excellent shine. One of the best things i can recommend as long as the wood is not mdf or equivallent.

Try linseed oil. It's been used to make wood shine and protect it for hundreds of years and there's still hardly anything better.

Try lemon oil - it's natural, and it cleans the wood and nourishes it. (And smells great.)
The problem with commercial polishes is that they just sit on the surface, and you end up having polish build-up because all you do it polish the polish, rather than feed the wood.

I use Liquid Gold monthly on all the wood surfaces in my house. I even clean the vinyl in my truck with Liquid Gold. It has a sweet cherry-almond smell and is available in aerosol and non-aerosol. http://www.scottsliquidgold.com/scotts-liquid-gold/
