The legal standpoint is you can only download music off something like Limewire if you already own the track in another form such as on a CD. There are many services online for purchasing music tracks. Napster and Yahoo both offer a subscription service where for about $15 a month you can download as many tracks as you wish.

No. Using anything, Limewire included, to share or download files that are under copyright (music, movies, software etc) without paying for them is illegal, unless you have the consent of the copyright holder. It's copyright infringement, and the fine is between $750.00 and $150,000.00 for each file illegally downloaded. For more details, do a search on copyright law, copyright infringement or piracy.

Downloading pirated files off any program is illegal. If you pay for the songs, no problem but downloading them for free off a peertopeer sharing program is illegal and contains the risk of being charged for downloading pirated content and/or the risk of getting a virus, especially on the Gnutella Network.

Probably not...
If the music is being distributed with the permission of the copyright holder, then it is legal.
Most music on Limewire is not distributed with such permission so downloading it is illegal.

in case you get carry of music with the "rights offered/public area" image marking it, it is relatively criminal. yet while it is around a fragment of a p.c. of all music on limewire, the rest you get carry of is very, very unlawful. it is inspite of in case you have offered it or no longer. verify the person contract in the get carry of, or the limewire web site. They the two clarify this.
