i know on a normal computer you have to buy the internet from like earthlink and from aol. but if i get a router for my dell inspiron 1501 do i still have to get the internet from some one like that?

The internet service is fed to you from an Internet Service Provider (e.g. DSL from your phone company, Cable internet from the CATV, etc). They terminate their service with a modem.
When you have more than 1 pc on your network, you use a router. The modem connects to the router's WAN port; the pcs connect to LAN ports either on the router or on a network switch. If you have a wireless router or wireless access point several LAN devices are linked via unlicensed radio wireless transmission to the wireless point from the wireless port of the respective pcs.

Yes. A router is just a device that lets you connect several machines to the internet at the same time. You still need to have an internet connection from someone.

Yes you will still have to pay for the broadband service. A router on it's own is no good. Unless your thinking of buying a wireless router & basically use someone else's wireless connection.

Yes, you do...it will allow you to network as well as if you're on a laptop and you have the wireless capability on your computer...you won't have to be tethered down to anything.
