I was 42 when I got pregnant and gave birth. It was my first pregnancy. I am overweight as well and I had given up on the idea of getting pregnant because I thought I was too old. Also, my husband had been out of town for three months, me getting older and less likely to be able to carry a healthy baby to term. Our daughter came as a huge surprise to everyone I know including my husband and me.

My doctors were very cautious because they thought I might have problems. I opted not to have an amnio because I didn't plan to terminate regardless and I didn't want take the risk. My baby was large for gestational age and I had excessive amounts of amniotic fluid, but I didn't have diabetes or any other problems.

My daughter is now 8 months old and a beautiful, developmentally sound little girl loved by all here in China where we live. She has no chromosomal or genetic anomolies. She is exposed to three different languages but she seems to be on target for language develelopment. She took her first steps the other day though she hasn't tried again since then. She smiled a bit late, but she did everything else a bit early. When I took her to gymboree, she was too developmentally advanced for her age group so she had to be switched to the next one which was for children from 2 to 8 months older than she was. I'm not bragging and I'm fully aware that this is no indication that she will be particularly intelligent and I don't want her to be especially intelligent anyway, but I point this out because a lot of people expect a 42 year old woman to have a child with developmental problems. At 36 you are perfectly safe. Good luck!

By the way, my grandmother had a child when she was 45 and that was in 1960.

Not at all. My friend just had a baby and she is 38 - there were no problems and the baby is beautiful and healthy. Although they do say that after 35 there are increased risk of health issue for mother and baby, but the chances are slim at 36 - 38.

I don't think it is too old to get pregnant. Seems like people are getting pregnant later in life now. I wanted to have children younger so I would be energetic. However, I am seeing that a 16 year old can become old quickly with a child LOL. If you feel you are ready, don't let age hold you back. There may be more compications the older you get with your pregnancy, be sure to ask your doctor the risks.

Absolutely not. I have 4 girlfriends that had their first and subsequent babies on or after 36 with no problems TTC. However that is not always the case. I think the general rule is if you haven't conceived within 9-12mths then consult a GP who can point you in the right direction should there be difficulties.

No. YOu can get pregnant until you hit menopause which can be anywhere from the late 30;s to the early 50's. You are considered a little higher risk and may be subject to a couple more blood tests and ultrasounds but it is definitely not too old.

no its not to old to get preganant. My mom was 38 when she had me.Although they do say the older that you get the more complications can arrise like the high blood pressure or the babys can have down syndrome or other birth defects. If you are a healthy woman with no major medical conditions and take good care of yourself im sure you will be fine.If you are wanting to conceive start taking pre natal vitamins now to boost your immune system and you will have those extra vitamins in your body from the moment you conceive it helps you greatly in the long run i wish you luck

i hope not, as i will be in a month's time and am trying for no. 2! seriously, you are less fertile than a 26 year old, and fertility does go down quite rapidly after we hit 30. but there are so many ppl i know who are 36 or older who have had kids, so definitely not too old... good luck

in older days it was considered so but not anymore with all the medical technology available we can still have our fist kid till 40 yr old. of course one might be more tired or have risk that are greater then when we are much younger but going to the doctor and having a good follow up it is very much safer.
I have a friend who got pregnant when she was 37 and baby is gorgeous and in good health.. so do not be worried and enjoy your pregnancy and be happy...
have a great day.........

I don't think so. My husband always asks how old you'd be when the child is grown. At 36 you'd be 56when the child is 20. Ithink thats pretty good.
