at least, i believe it's called that... (so i've been told) it's the belt that charges the battery. hope someone can help!

I THINK you may mean the auxiliary drive belt and it will encompass the alternator, which charges the battery. It may also be used to drive the oil pump and so on. I recently changed mine on a Peugeot 306 (2000) and it isn't the easiest of cars to do it on. The problem with the Peugeot is access and getting it round five pulleys. You may also need the tool or a similar shaped object for the tensioner.

It is important you get the correct tension as too slack and it will fall off or do other damage. You will manage this is you have some experience but I'd steer clear if none. You will probably need an extra pair of hands as well as I found I need somebody guiding it at the top as I worked on the bottom. Not sure if the earlier model is any easier.
