They have not, they all become sci-fi.
Look at it this way.
The bad guy comes to a planet or ship (town) and the good guys have to stop them.
Chasing the bad guy.
A group of people in an outpost and the problems that it brings.
Being Isolated in a far off land.
And the old journey tale is still a popular theme.
Not to forget the "my horse, ship is down or getting lost", how do I get back?
All examples are the primary themes in sci-fi and westerns.
