How England and America seem to have adpoted very similar laws that seem to be heading in a direction of a police state, that spies and has complete control over its people.

I also find it a bit strange how supposedly independly both Bush and Blair gave top jobs to their mates in government. This has not occured previously in either country as far as I am aware.

I think it would be very hard to have a revolution.

If your going to have a revolution or even a demonstation you need organisors seeing as any person who would be involved with something like this would probably have some kind of political history, it would be likley that they would have their every move watched.

It is also likley that anti terrorism laws would be abused which is already happening such as (Mr Wolfgang being arrested under anti terrorism laws for shouting rubbish at Jack Straw) There are many cases of this law being abused it seems that anyone actively opposing the war on Iraq is being quickly labeled as a terrorist.

They could be arrested and imprisiomned for 90 days if the new laws come in without there family knowing where they are, as they do not need to inform anyone under these laws, and if they are deemed as being a big enough threat no doubt they will end up in Guantamino Bay. It may seem a bit far fetched but this kind of contol as been

I did read George Orwell. I think someone should re make the film and call it 2008 that would probably give people the wake up call they need.

It is strange. But what i find most interesting is the fact that George Bush is a republican (right-wing) and Tony Blair was/Gordon Brown is a member of the Labor Party (left-wing).

So many people say that we are dealing with neo-conservatism and that neo-conservatism will lead to a police state. But this is not a political divide - it is just reaction to the volatile state of affairs in these countries and the rest of the world.

You want to know what living in a police state is like? - go see "The Lives of Others" it is a brillant german film about life in the former east germany - with the Stasi (secret police).

The American system of law has developed from the English system, which is why there are so many similarities. Both sets of citizens ( i prefer to regard myself as a British Subject) have similar rights and duties including free speech.
Al governments are afraid of free speech because it uncovers things which embarrass them.
I do not know the source of the quotation but it is worth remembering, " The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."

It's high time our MP's properly woke up instead of going through the motions

I used to trust Labour, but after a documentary about (Old) Labour's policies immediately following World War 2, I no longer do.
OK the NHS was a good thing, but some of the other things they were trying to do ...

There's just too many similarities.

Nepotism has always occurred in Government, what about Robert Kennedy being Attorney General under JFK...I have to disagree that we have a Police State or indeed anything close to it. OK there have to be extra precautions taken against terrorism which in reality is a fairly recent phenomena. I am a believer in the statement if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about. You can film and photo me all you want...as long as it keeps my loved ones safe.

I wonder if you know that Canada is under England rule. Have you noticed the Queen of England is on all of our money? Do you know Mr.Blair resigned his position and took on an ambassator role.? Canada and the States are very similar in many ways, I could not believe your min. wage, terrible. ours is $8.50. Let me say this, I am so sick of hearing "only in America" grow up. Canada is a wonderfull place to live, we are as civilized as you, Why do you think Americans travel to other countries, its because they are wonderfull too. YET minus the bragging and smart *** attitudes of you.
