Amarillo was originally named Oneida and it is situated in the Llano Estacado region.[2] The availability of the railroad and freight service provided by the Fort Worth and Denver City Railroad contributed the city's growth as a cattle marketing center in the late 19th century.[3] Amarillo is the regional economical center for the Texas Panhandle as well as Eastern New Mexico and the Oklahoma Panhandle.[4]

Yes! Thanks for asking. The Remy brothers started here and later sold to GM. After that the town became the world headquarters of GM. (the town was also originally purchased from an Indian named Chief Anderson). Now we have Indian river walk ways and GM has moved out. Life is funny. The wise old Indian took his wampum and split GM lost there butt and left with an attitude. :o)

Two supposed "Devil Worshippers" were murdered in their secluded castle in the 1980's. This made national news other than that nothing...except maybe the Meth Capital of the State
