Karma is simply the packets of energy that we release, through our words, thoughts, and actions. These energies bundles when manifested create energetic responses, which then bounce back at us, as physical manifestations, of our past Karma.
The key point here is that the manifestation of this bouncing back energy is managed by our own energy levels. So only when we are in the vibrational match with the incoming frequency vibration, it will enter our life. So if we continue to vibrate at higher frequency, we can block those energies from entering our life, which we have created in the past. As the Karmic energies have to wait till they find the energy match in us.
Sometimes when over many lifetimes, a soul collects a backlog of bad frequency energy, it chooses to undergo a painful life, so that it can clear it up in one go, such souls are brave, and far in between, usually souls choose a mix package to sail through. Highly evolved soul may choose a heavy life so that they can graduate faster to into the lightness of God.
When 'good' things happen to bad a person, that is because they are maintaining a higher energy at that time, so the bounce back energy will take time to manifest for them, thus they escape the consequences till they use up all their high frequency energy or simply all their power.
Karmically it can be said that right now they are reaping the benefits of their past good karma, or good vibrations released, so the bad karma is not manifesting right now or has to wait for the time when their chips are down.
But the truth is that energies always come back sooner or later, and without fail. No body gets away from paying up.
When the build up gets too strong we either have a breakdown or a windfall, so that the cycle of energy that we have released long time back, can be finally completed for us. This also allows us to make fresh aware choices after seeing the consequences of our past choices. This learning continues till we learn to make only those energetic choices which we want to experience ourselves.
Simply put, we have to be in an energetic or vibrational match to the energy that is coming back at us. That is why, on the days we are down or low, our entire low frequency energy manifestations flood into our lives, creating a chaos. That is why the incoming energy creates a domino effect in our life.
So many times, the so called 'good' people, are really not vibrating at 'good' frequencies within, as there isn't much joy, happiness or vibrancy in their personal lives, so basically they are just acting out their goodness, while in fact attracting 'bad' energies to themselves.
So many times, there are fearful people, who attract fearful experiences, 'victims' or hurt people who gets victimized repeatedly, angry people who attract angry experiences, hurried people have hurried experiences, just as sad people attract more sad experiences to them, as what we send out is what we receive.
It is no surprise then that cheerful people, mostly attract cheerful friends and experiences into their lives, and easy going people only attract easy going experiences and friends to their lives, the rest just fade away after a while, as we are constantly asking vibrationally to the universe to send us just that, our vibrations are our true Karma, so watch out for what karma are we tingling at right now! So the best way to have 'good' experiences is to constantly tune in to good experiences and friends, friends who raise our frequency not diminish it, people who make our hearts expand with joy, and not diminish our light and joy as that is what we all really want in life. Best frequency changers are acts of appreciation and gratitude.
THE DELAY happens only caused when either there is an energy backlog for us to manifest, when we are not a very good allower of positive energy. Sometimes when our intent isn't very clear or sharp enough to show instant results, so to have instant result sharpen your energies and be a very good allower of good energy by yourself vibrating at higher frequencies, which is staying happy! More happiness, more joy, more appreciation in daily life, more easier and quicker bounce backs, good ones at least.
The delay is also because of the time taken by the energy to complete the full circle energetically for us. Or when there is no energetic match to the incoming energy or, we haven't made clear intents while making a choice. So when they get sharper or clearer as in moments of distress, we create clear intents and instant results. As our energies get sharper so do our intents, we get instant paybacks, or rather energetic bounce backs.

Simply said : "What goes around comes around."
To answer your questions:
1.Is there a 'delayed reaction' in some circumstances & in others an 'instant' payback? Yes
2. Is it spiritual by nature ? If you want it to be.

Karma to me;
When I think about getting revenge, Karma will take care of it why should inter that circle of revenge and payback that never ends?
When I want to turning my back on someone truly in need. Karma! Who will be there when I need help?
When a co-worker or friend is down and all they need is one encouraging word. Stop an take the time to speake it I might need the same word said to me some day.
When I am driving an some one cuts me off. Karma, Am I perfect? Have I or will I ever be distracted when I drive and do the same?
It is my encouragement to be good, and more easily followed and remembered than the Ten Commandment, or any law written by man.

The literal which means of karma is action. inspite of the undeniable fact that, it has taken on 2 meanings:(a million) the metaphysical one, wherein a approach or the different what's occurring now a approach or the different is the top results of strikes, the two in previous lives or this one, and (2) the thought that the style you behave a approach or the different impacts what's going to ensue. i think of the 2nd is real in a regular experience, even nonetheless all of us know that very undesirable issues can ensue, e.g. what in basic terms took place in Japan, which would be "karma" in the experience that it became into unwise to construct nuclear flowers in an earthquake zone, yet can not often propose karma, in the sens that each and one and all of those people loss of life a mindless dying became right into a approach or the different on the subject count number of the strikes of persons that died

Actions performed with attachment to the fruits thereof is supposed to result in karma. Since an attachment existed, the doer has to be born again to experience the fruits (Good or bad) .
Hinduism advocates the practice of desireless action to escape this cycle permanently. One lives out the residual karma in this life and avoids accumulating anything extra.

I think KARMA is a brilliant philosophical extension of the physical law of cause and effect, where there is an irrefutable one-to-one linkage between a cause and its effect. Just as an intent takes its own time, sometimes more but other times less, to fructify into action, similarly KARMA too can have varied time frame to take effect.

Karma is my inhibitor and my inspiration, because it keeps from indulging into things that are both trivial and unnecessary. Karma is a product of God's Will, its works almost like poetic justice, but not as exact. I do believe that Good will always prevail over evil. Karma is proof of God's existence.

That is a popular but wrong definition of karma. Read about the Dharmic religions such as Buddhism and you'll get the true definition.

I think there is a delayed reaction. Somehow irony is usually involved. Is that spiritual?
Deal is, deal with your emotions and harm so few along the way as you can manage.

Karma in Oriental Philosophy is probably more related with the sins you committed in another life brought to this one; all that make sense if you believe in Reincarnation.

duty. reaction entirely depends on the purity of one's mind. one who is real pure, he do not expect result or reaction. if he does wish for anything and that wish is not relating to self, that is immediately granted. and even with this granting, such person will not feel the difference. this is the way how nature work. this fact is not realised by many people.
