We must all remember that we come together for our own individual reasons and motivations, and try to respect those. It is much more important to get as much good as we can from each other's company, and try to ignore or forgive anyone who seems to get in our way. I have come across individuals who seemed to be completely self serving one day, and the epitome of decency and scholarship the next. I have been known to be playful now and then myself, depending on the intent of the question. But don't waste a moment with disappointment when there are so many rare blessings to be had for the asking. It would be like pining over a bruised apple that has fallen to the ground, when there are so many still on the branches to be harvested.

Dear Moon,

They are after the points, the easy two points. But about getting Best Answer there are a few that go the extra mile for them plus are generous in their knowledge and time. Others, like me, care more for the long lasting relation that this site brings the opportunity to build... call it friendship! There is little about the points, of the BAs! So an expert that is generous with his/her knowledge may be better that a good friend for certain problems life brings, but for life in general there are Duckys, Angels, a number of Ladies and other friends that I just will never trade.

= )

May god be with you.

Regards,
P

I am usually surprised when I see I was chosen for a best answer, I am glad to hear from the writer letting me know that I did actually help in some little way. This is what is about anyways. I can not get over the ones that beg for stars though, I have none and really could care less, all I want is to help make a difference for someone who needs a little help

Honestly, I am not disappointed. People don't generally behave well on the internet. It seems to bring out the worst in them. So, my expectations aren't high any more. Which really ind of sucks. What do you get when you get a BA anyway? Points that you can't trade in for anything, and maybe a little orange box under your avatar? Oh yeah, can't live without those.

To whom do you want us to be generous? I wish you had filled us in on the situation that prompted this question.

If a person is greedy for the ten points that comes with being chosen best answer, they are presumably motivated to write really good answers. I can't see anything wrong with that.

The only thing I don't like is when people team up to ask and answer, and always choose their friend's answer even when it is not the best. I sometimes email my questions to my best friend because I figure he will come up with the right answer, but if someone else has a better one, I will choose it and he won't mind.

The point system mostly tells us how the designers of the program expect it to be used. You pay to ask a question to discourage people from asking stupid questions. You get 10 points for a best answer for the obvious reason, but you get points for other forms of participation, too, because we need a lot of answers in order for the best to be relevant. We need for the asker to choose a best, and we need voting because otherwise some questions would hang out there in limbo indefinitely. We need thumbs up on best answers to encourage people to read closed questions and not be forever asking the same questions.

Not really.. at least they are trying to give their best answers.
But I get disappointed when I see people being greedy for 2 points. Many times I see people answer: I don't know. Btw, thanks for 2 points for free or for nothing .. or something like that... Even worse, They thanked for the points after giving rude comments or without even trying to give the appropriate answer in an appropriate manner.

You know what I mean?

I'd better be quiet.. My sleepy head can't think.. I'm muddling and mumbling...

Good night everyone... Zzzzzzzzzz

I am thinking you might be talking about the ones who say give me best answer?
Yes, it disappoints me, but I try to remember it takes all kinds to make the world go round. Without the greedy ones, we wouldn't recognnize the generous ones!

Good morning, Moon.

It`s a normal thing here but in my case I don`t aspire to get more BA`s as long as they acknowledge my answers and answer my questions. It`s a compliment if someone would send me a personal message telling me that my questions and answers are worth reading.

that's why people shouldn't let questions go to vote if they're concerned about it: the greediness gets really bad when there's a queue to the voting booth, all by the same person.

good observation moon, we've both been here plenty long to see both sides of the story. :)

NO!! Once you get to the upper levels points don't really matter. Best answers though are a compliment.
