when harry was dropped off at the durleys house, dumbly left a note to petunia telling her he was protected.. yadda yadda. the howler was to remind her of his last note, or the note with the baby that bound her to keep her word of keeping harry until he comes of age when she accepted to take baby harry in and take care of him.

Petunia Meaning

The last time Dumbledore sent Petunia a letter was when he dropped Harry off on her doorstep when he was a baby. In the letter he (if I recall correctly) explained the situation surrounding James & Lily's death, and the charms & enchantments put on the Dursley's house to protect Harry. Remember - those charms were only effective as long as Harry could call the Dursley's house "home." So when Vernon & Petunia wanted to kick Harry out, Dumbledore had to remind Petunia of his last letter.

At the end of the 5th book, Dumbledore tells Harry that he sent the howler. It was to remind her of the danger Harry was in when she took him in as a baby. "Remember my last" just means remember the note I left with baby Harry. Lame, but true.

It's "My last [letter]" referring to the letter he left with Harry when he left Harry on the Dursley's doorstep.

That's one of my questions, too! I thought perhaps it had been answered in #6, and I just forgot about it. I'm going to have to go back and read the whole series again.

It's something to do with her writing to Dumbledore as a child asking if she can join Hogwarts like her sister. He sent her a letter back saying No. by "my last.." he means "my last correspondence.."
