The first hat trick in the cricket world cup was taken by Chetan Sharma of India, when he clean bowled the following batsmen of New Zeland in the 24th match of Reliannce World Cup 1987 played at Vidarbha Cricket Asasociation Ground, Nagpur on 31st October, 1987.
1) K.R. Rutherford.
2) I.D.S. Smith.
3) E.J. Chatfield.
The above were 6th, 7th and 8th wickets to fall and all were clean bowled by Chetan Sharma at the score of 182 runs.
