Sorry, this is still bugging me!
Is it really okay for Gerry to keep comparing eating at the Tapas Bar with eating in the garden.
I ask this as their apartment had its own private garden, so having a meal there obviously would be like eating in the garden. Going to the Tapas Bar would be like what it really was - going down the pub?

Thanks, that's the point I'm trying to make. If it really HAD been like eating in the garden, they'd have been eating in the apartment's garden and Madeleine would be here today. She wouldn't have been 'abducted' or wandered off.
Lexy - regarding the baby listening service. I can see your comprarison, but when you carried out your duties in Spain, you had keys to the apartments. The children were locked inside - the McCann toddlers were totally unprotected in an unlocked and open doored apartment. It's also been well documented that the McCanns never used the creche facility at the Tapas Bar (Why? They were going there anyway) or the baby sitting facility provided by Mark Warner. Lulled into a false sense of security - you can bet that their passports were locked in the office safe and Gerry's wallet was in his back pocket - not in the open doored apartment.

Bobby L : 'well within the bounds of responsible parenting' eh. This comment astounds me. Not only is he continuing to believe that they did nothing wrong, he's giving off the signal that it's ok for us all to do it and that he would do it again. These fact finding missions really make me laugh - he should look closer to home and practice what he preaches. Such an arrogant hypocrite - and the risk of them doing it all over again.

Exactly. You have hit the nail on the head. There is no comparison between the two. IF they had been in the garden, they would have known exactly what happened to their daughter. I have a pub at the end of my street, about 100 yards from my house, I can't see my front door or anything OF my house from there, but would it be OK for me to leave my 2 kids home alone while I went for a beer? Nope. IMHO, it is never excusable to be off the property while your children are inside. And as for doing it for four nights in a row? (Backed up by evidence from local residents and other holiday makers) They might have just put a bloody sign on the door saying "children inside..help yourself". Poor, poor Maddie is not the victim of a one minute oversight or mistake, she is the victim of complacent parents who should have known better. (And before I get the whole "Blame the abductor" stuff, let's just face facts, there is no evidence of an abduction thus far, merely a disappearance. IF they can prove she was abducted, I hope they find the B**tard and make him suffer, but until then I fail to see how anyone can be so sure she was kidnapped)

Gerry has now come out and asserted that he and Kate not only did NOT make a mistake on 3 May, they actually followed best practice. What they did was 'well within the bounds of responsible parenting'.
'Well within', Dellyxx! Remember that when 'pro-McCanns' on here bleat about the McCanns regretting their mistake and everyone should leave them alone. They didn't make a mistake at all! They would do the same again!
Eating in the garden. BBQ time. Pretend checks which didn't happen. Sleeping next door. All the rubbish that man has dredged up to cover his backside. Such unspeakable arrogance. I haven't met a single person who says they were 'right' to leave their children that evening. Not one.
Even 'pro-McCanns', though they'll get close under pressure, always pull back from the absurdity of recommending such behaviour as a model of best practice in childcare.
But Gerry does.

They also ate out at CHAPLINS BAR, which is around 800 metres further than the Tapas Bar...WITHOUT the children, who were left crying in the room, staff at Mark Warner were so concerned they approached the McCanns and broached the subject, only to be told by Gerry McCann "Our children are fine, thankyou".
There is SO much more to this story. There is so much thats yet been made public. Please, scroll down to around halfway and read the comment entitled "LIARS LIARS LIARS". This is 100% true.

At least at home the children are familiar with their surroundings and would know where to look for mum and dad if they woke up scared. And well I don't know about anyone else but I dont sit in my garden in the dark. I sit on my back porch but that is attached to the house and the door is left open so I can hear anything that goes on inside and the front door is locked.

No, there is no comparing it.
To compare it, the party would have had to have been in the apartment's garden. That would give a true comparison.
Like the answer above, it's more like eating in the pub garden at the end of a very, very large back garden.

"The real issue is that we should not have a constant fear of abduction of our children from their bedrooms, gardens or streets for that matter. What Kate and I did was at worst naïve and no one should forget that the real criminal is the predator who has taken a completely innocent child in such a premeditated fashion" Gerry McCann

yes i have to agree with you, this quote has also bugged me! unless they have a 50yard garden and regularly put the children to sleep, leave the front door unlocked and sit at the very bottom of that "50yard" garden then they could compare it, but i doubt somehow their garden is that big!!!
it's also strange that they would even use that as an excuse and think it's acceptable, it's not even ok to leave your front door unlocked and sit at the bottom of your garden whilst three toddlers are upstairs in your home?? i wouldn't put my son to bed and go sit in the garden, let alone eating at a tapas bar leaving him alone on holiday!!!!
Gerry has wound me up so much, the way he is still brushing what they did off!!!! saying it's like sitting in the garden would mean he thinks what they did was ok, telling other's it's ok to leave your kids alone and if he thinks it's ok will he do this again?????
i'd have an ounce of sympathy for them if they just admitted they did wrong - they totally f**ked up and now their baby daughter is suffering - why will they just not admit what they did was sooooo wrong? why do they have to just brush it off, saying it's like sitting in your garden!!!!! i just don't get it???
what they did was like putting your babies to bed, leaving the front door un-locked, and going to the local put that's "50yards" down the road!!! that's what it's like - not sitting in your garden!!!
like i said, it's not even ok to go sit in your "50yard" garden whilst leaving doors un-locked - so why would he think this excuse will be accepted?????
poor little maddie, it's not her fault she had such selfish parents!!!!

I can only assume that their garden is open to the public if they are making that comparison! If you repeat your vindication often enough, you can convince yourself of your innocence - even in the depths of something as horrific as the disappearance of your child. Irresponsible, bigotted, arrogant & shameless are words I currently apply to Mr McCann. He truely should be ashamed of himself - not only for the neglect issue, but for his subsequent behaviour which really does begger belief. I do hope Madeleine is found safe & well soon.

Absolutely no comparison. To get to the apartment from the tapas bar you had to run a gauntlet of strange holiday makers, an overgrown labyrinth of narrow pavements and an unsecured swimming pool!
