The highlight of my 30 years of watching F1 was the rivalry between Senna and Prost, Two completely different men, Two completely different driving styles but always incredibly close to each other on the track. As a Prost fan, it was always soul destroying to witness Senna take pole with 10 seconds remaining, but the on track (and off track) rivalry between the two was so intense, it made every race a nail biter. Being a Prost fan, i have to concede, my memories of Prost's career have remained far more vivid because of Ayrton Senna. The Monaco GP of '94 is the only time in my life that F1 racing became insignificant, Having witnessed Ayrton's death at Imola, and having the drivers paying their respect around an empty pole position spot at Monaco, made racing cars seem a bit futile for a while. Good of you to remember Roland as well, God bless them both. Edit. Julian G have a thumbs up to counter that nasty scumbag! :-) Edit. GOD. Don't you think the anniversary of a fine man and great racers death should be acknowledged with fondness, memories and respect, rather than passing judgment on how high up the all time list his achievements place him?

They both died in corners. Ratzenberger in Villeneuve, in practice, possibly due to a front wing failure. Senna in Tamburello, during the race, possibly due to a suspension failure. lou0810 already posted the links.

I believe Ratzenberger was dead trackside, yes. Senna was not pronounced dead for several hours; although I seem to recall there were rumours he was dead immediately and revived trackside (revived insofar as his heart started beating again; the man was brain dead regardless).
