It depends on the router (i.e. Brand name, Linksys/Cisco/D-Link) and signal that is broadcasting (802.11a / 802.11b/ 802.11/g ) but apporximate range is of 500 meter square. WiFi signals do you go through walls very well, so if you had a big hall with no walls in the middle and you planted a WiFi router in the middle, you should get WiFi connectivity with the 500 meter square area centered at the point where the router is installed.

it can probabily work well witha signal of strength between 10 feet to 20 feet and mostly depends on the power of the router
but generally minimum house used computers with wifi have a range between 10 - 15 or 20 feet
but in cafes
or airports
and lounges they have more than 250 feet
as they have to supply more computers

Depends on the quality of the machine, some are designed for a distance over 100 -150 feet and maybe miore.

Factory rating in perfect conditions is 150 ft inside and 1500 ft outside. I have never found one that can meet those specs because of structures and noise from other items.
