The McCanns have actually pushed their 'supporters' so far in this debate that reasonable people are now forced to defend the practice of leaving three children under four alone in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country for several hours every night.
It used to be the 'pro-McCanns' said 'well, yeah, they made a mistake, but now they;re paying for it so leave them alone'.
Now, even that can't be said. THEY DIDN'T MAKE A MISTAKE!
'Well within the bounds' actually means IT'S GOOD PRACTICE!! Everybody should do it!
Tremendous news! And, again, not even a glimmer of regret for leaving the child alone. The current blog is a new low. Dreadful.
Will 'pro-McCanns' please now accept that everything the family did that evening was absolutely correct in every regard and stop referring to them having made a mistake or alleging they left their children. How dare you! That's so hurtful!!

And by the way, Faith and Lexy, cite your sources for evidence of regular checks and for the information you think someone has (the court? whoever) which no one is being told.

If social services are investigating you, you have overstepped the boundries. If they are not and you think they should be, report it. If nothing is done then they are probably within although I am well aware there are exeptions. Social services fail many a child. Like you said its a grey area, and when dealing with humans, every case is different. The human rights Act if taken to a conclusion would argue that despite risk there is an element of 'right to family life' which covers so much. If cases go that far, they usually win. I mean paedophiles get loads of priviledges because of this act, the right to anonimity for example, the right to be protected etc.
Watching nature programmes is fascinating as you have all possible examples of parenting to consider. Cuckoos for example are the worst kind of parents as they force their young to be brought up by strangers. Other young are on their own from birth. The cat family are notoriously protective of their young, but have to leave them alone to get food.
I am not saying we are animals, just that without man made law, humans would have morally found their natural place in parenting as laws preaching right from wrong is extremely disruptive, necessary nonetheless but no two folk parent the same and that is why it is difficult to apply guidelines in all cases. Some just don't fit.

B~ll~cks! Theres no way what they did was in the bounds of being responsible.
Well looking at the news, you can pretty much do anything to a child and get away with it. Paedos get a lesser sentence than a burglar, wheres the justice in that?
Why has Gerry gone to America??? Surely if the last possible sighting of his missing child is Morocco (or wherever the last sighting was), you'd search every inch and not leave until you were 100% convinced she wasn't in that country? soo very very strange. This isn't the behavior of a desperate parent, its someone who, again, has very poor judgement and is completely delusional.

I honestly believe the lawyer is re-iterating what the McCanns think themselves. They do not seem to think they have done anything wrong. They make a good team! I have read that Mr McCann is now to meet President Bush. What on earth is this all about? The man seems obsessed with visiting as many countries as possible and is too full of himself. What does he want Bush to do? Perhaps he feels he should pull all of his troops out of Iraq and have them search the world for Maddie. There is something seriously disturbing about Mr McCann and his globe trotting. For all his jetting around it has not produced one concrete lead as to where his daughter may be. The bottom line is that if these selfish "parents" had not left their children alone the little girl would not have gone missing.

Well, if they are in the bounds of responsible parenting that means that its ok for anyone to go leave their young children and babies alone unattended, doesn't it? God, there are hundreds of families now under the watchful eyes of social workers for one thing and another where children are concerned, and If anyone of them were to go out for a drink and a meal leaving their children alone, they'd have been dealt with severely and the possibility of having their children removed and fostered.Whats this world coming to?
The McCanns have certainly started something where I'm sure new laws and rules are going to be made, the main concern though as I keep stating over and over again is Madeline, although she is supposed to be the main subject in the first instance, more and more attention is being brought to her parents (irresponsible parents)where they are going next, what he said, what she said, legal representation etc etc.Whats actually being done now with the search and investigation of missing Madeline? I just hope and pray that one day she will be found unharmed, and if she is, then let the McCanns be dealt with from there onwards.

He (gerry) doesn't mention who advised him that is was well within the means of responsible parenting does he? It was probably a member of Team McCann!

Lexy - 3 months down the line and your still not getting the difference between the babysitting and room listening services that were offered. The babysitting one that was available at a local fee was just that - a proper baby sitter in the room. The room listening is where workers go up and down the corridors all night listening out for a baby crying - not ideal and defintaly not for toddlers who can get out of bed and up to all sorts without making a sound.

IF they had used the room listening service who do you think would get getting the blame?

And no, we can't wrap our children up in cotton wool - they need some freedom to grow and learn and they need to be educated in the risks that come with that freedom. The time to do that isn't with 3 kids under 4 sleeping alone in a strange hotel room is it? A huge difference to letting kids out to play - surely after all that time you can see that?

If your child has stepped outside one of those bounds....I would suggest that the parents who were not present when those bounds were broken are held accountable. Simple as ABC

Well I disagree.

Anyone who is reasonably switched on and responsible is aware of the risks associated with leaving your children unattended.

Edit.......Frangipan - this is not a forum. Someone posts a question, you either answer it or you dont. Simple.

Edit - Lyn, my response to Frangipan was made irrelevant of who posted the question. I dont think that I have ever licked Dave s ***** and I resent you implying that I do. Posters on here have the right to post whatever question that they like. It's just a shame when people dont answer the question.
Admittedly I wouldnt normally make a comment like that, otherwise you end up getting embroiled in responding like this and tit for tatting.

Edit - Plato, sorry. I dont normally do that.

if their behaviour was ' well within the bounds of responsible parenting' dave now this statement can be debated at length.

i would also like an example of thier view of irresponsilbe parenting.

Within the bounds of responsible parenting?

I think it's a disgrace and more worrying is that Gerry still believes it. I've said it before - see you all next summer, cos it looks like they'll be doing it again - seeing as its ok. Poor, poor Madeleine and those poor twins.

I'd really love to know who advised him this.
