most people were scared Did it cost people ,countries,company money? What was the fall out?

The main problem was bad programming in applications. Many that used dates only went as far as 1999 and no further - thus when the new year came they would not be able to recognise 2000 and many would then malfunction.

Because this was recognised patches were found well in advance for the vast majority of programmes. A few problems were found at the start of 2000 but these were minor and in old programmes.

Y2000 did cost money in paying experts to look at programmes and ensure they were safe. In paying to produce and install patches etc. But the crucial point is that the problem was recognised well in advance and dealt with at a fraction of the cost that ignoring the problem might have caused!

The only people that it cost money was the ones dumb enough to believe the world was going to end or whatever it was that they believed.
The good thing was that they made our computers work a little bit better because everyone was scared they wouldn't work like they were.

Yeah, we figured out ahead of time that computers might freak out so companies prepared for it by either building their products to be compatible or patching their software.
